Welcome to the Home Energy Awareness Lab! We are a research group at Oregon State University led by Prof. Ron Metoyer, studying the use of feedback technology and information visualization to help raise awareness of domestic electricity usage. We are specifically interested in studying particular aspects of always-on feedback systems for the home, including aesthetics, privacy, routines, familiarity, and empowerment.
The study is broken down into several distinct stages, beginning with background research and design, and eventually culminating in the deployment of our feedback devices. We intend to use participatory design process involving end users thoroughly and consistently throughout the stages of our research.
