Technology: Today and Tomorrow
Panel Discussion moderated by Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Rob Manning and cocktail reception presented by the OSU Alumni Association.

You are invited to join us for panel discussion that will bring together OSU researchers and professionals from varying disciplines to provide the audience with a well-rounded look into the technology revolution and how OSU is making an impact today and tomorrow.

Tom Dietterich, OSU College of Engineering Professor and Director of Intelligent Systems, will lend his expertise to the conversation. Dietterich’s research focuses on machine learning. He examines questions such as, how can we make computer systems that adapt and learn from their experience? His laboratory combines research on machine learning and artificial intelligence fundamentals with applications to problems in science and engineering.

Dietterich also has co-founded several companies, including Strands, a company that developed a unique social recommendation engine, using “collaborative filtering” that is capable of automatically learning people’s tastes and how their preferences evolve over time. It can be used to generate real-time recommendations in a vast number of domains.

Other panelists include:
Dr. Trischa Goodnow, Professor Speech Communication, OSU College of Liberal Arts
Research focuses on visual rhetoric and the rhetoric of popular culture
Nancy King, Associate Professor Business Law, OSU College of Business
Research focuses on privacy law issues and ways to protect consumers while supporting the growth of global commerce
Scott Kveton, CEO Urban Airship and co-founder of OSU’s Open Source Lab
Expert on mobile app strategy and cloud infrastructure.

OSU President Ed Ray, and OSU Alumni Association Executive Director Scott D. Greenwood will also be in attendance to share their thoughts on OSU’s impact on the technology revolution. A cocktail reception featuring an OSU-inspired menu and entertainment provided by the OSU Jazz Combo will follow the panel discussion. And one lucky person in attendance will go home with two free tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s OVO!

Please join us for a wonderful evening!
