In our last post, we introduced WISE teacher Julia Harvey, a biology and environmental science teacher at South Eugene High School who was accepted into NOAA’s Teacher at Sea Program. Julia is currently in the Gulf of Alaska, and she’s posted some great pictures of walleye pollock, squid and fin whales as she learns from the scientists aboard the Oscar Dyson. She works 12 hour shifts and helps process fish caught for the survey by weighing them, measuring them and organizing them by sex.
Julia’s ship has an exercise room, a mess hall and a lounge, and she’s busy blogging away about her adventure. Make sure to follow Julia’s blog for more updates.
