Framing His Experiences

James Thomas with CameraJames Thomas is a graduate student in the College Student Services Administration program, who also earned a bachelor’s degree in digital communication arts from Oregon State University. He is a member of the OSU Coalition of Graduate Student Employees and NASPA, an association of student affairs and higher education professionals.

Active on campus during his undergraduate and graduate years, he encourages students to get involved with clubs and organizations and to stay connected with classmates and other students they meet at residence halls or through fraternities or sororities. “Wherever you find belonging, it is nice to have some sort of cohort, so that you can experience college with others, and have a sense of community,” he says.

A photographer, a selection of his photos is on display in the Memorial Union this summer. Check out “Reflections on Architecture: Works from Corvallis to Newport” in the MU Concourse Gallery from July 19 to Sept. 27 or visit postmodernpast.com

I feel the most creative when I’m looking through a lens of a camera, seeing a frame come to life. There is something about framing a shot that changes the environment for me. I see things differently since I’ve become a photographer, and often it is the light, a reflection or something unique that changes the space and calls for creative action.
