10 Questions: Bryanna Rainwater

Bryanna Rainwater

Bryanna Rainwater is a recent graduate who majored in theatre arts at OSU. She was involved in several plays, including the “Lucky Me” and “5 to 1.” Before departing Oregon State, Rainwater shared what her college experience meant to her, and how she took advantage of the opportunities OSU offers to students.

Q.  What are three random things about you?
I love the movie Scarface.
I am a coffee addict.
I hate crows.

Q.  What is your favorite memory at OSU?
I have so many great memories. Basically, my favorite memories are the people I surround myself with here. I have found an awesome group of motivated and fun friends who are there for me. That’s really rare, and something I feel I can take with me.

Q.  What Oregon State experience took you by surprise and why?
I would say that I was surprised by how fast it all went by. During your sophomore year graduating seems like eons away, but really four years is no time at all.

Q.  What makes OSU special?
OSU is special because of who comes here and how we influence the world after we graduate. The professors want to be here and put a lot of thought and effort into their classes — and it shows.

Q.  What class have you enjoyed most at Oregon State?
My absolute favorite class thus far has been German Dictatorships. It was well structured and covered a topic that really grasped my interest. I also liked the theatre directing series because I was able to direct my own one act play, which opened many doors for me and sparked my interest in directing. I made some of my best friends through that class.

Q.  Why did you choose your major?
I chose theatre as my major because it’s always been a passion of mine. When I got to college I didn’t think it could also be a career, but after slowly taking more and more classes, I decided to take the next step.

Q.  How do you plan to use your degree?
I plan to use my degree to further my passion by working for a professional theatre company, and hopefully one day I will be able to direct my own theatrical shows.

Q.  How have your studies influenced you?
My studies have influenced every aspect of who I am. Especially with a liberal arts degree — there is so much you can glean from understanding your art.

Q.  How have your experiences outside the classroom impacted you?
The experiences I’ve gained outside the classroom have made all the difference. Learning how to run equipment or how to direct a show through hands-on experiences has made it all worth it. And working with others makes the college experience that much more exciting.

Q.  What advice would you give to a new student?
I would tell a new student to meet with your advisors. They’ll help you out a lot. Also in college you find yourself as a person, so it’s okay to change and explore your beliefs, friends, interests — just find out who you are and don’t do it for someone else.
