{"id":552,"date":"2011-10-24T09:15:06","date_gmt":"2011-10-24T16:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/uhds\/?p=552"},"modified":"2011-10-24T12:30:52","modified_gmt":"2011-10-24T19:30:52","slug":"celebrating-sustainable-food-systems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/uhds\/2011\/10\/24\/celebrating-sustainable-food-systems\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating sustainable food systems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hopefully, you were able to participate in Food Day events on Monday, Oct. 24! \u00a0Food Day seeks to bring together Americans from all walks of life to advocate for healthy, affordable food that is produced in a sustainable, humane way. \u00a0For more information, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/foodday.org\/\">http:\/\/foodday.org\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UHDS, along with other campus partners including the <a href=\"http:\/\/mu.oregonstate.edu\/more\/shops-restaurants\">MU Food Service<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/sustainability\/about\">Student Sustainability Initiative<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/asosu.oregonstate.edu\/human-services-resource-center\">Human Services Resource Center<\/a>\/OSU Food Pantry and the <a href=\"http:\/\/health.oregonstate.edu\/students\/groups\/sda\">Student Dietetic Association<\/a> hosted information tables\u00a0 in the Memorial Union Quad in celebration of Food Day. Each group shared information on services and resources that support healthy food.<\/p>\n<p>In UHDS dining centers our goal is to keep healthy food accessible, affordable and from local sources, whenever possible. (See examples of healthy affordable food available in the dining centers in my <a href=\"..\/tag\/tara-sanders\/\">previous blog<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>UHDS is a member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodalliance.org\/\">Food Alliance<\/a>, an organization that promotes environmental and social responsibility for the food system, and demonstrates this commitment through partnerships with many local vendors.\u00a0 UHDS is a proud partner with OSU&#8217;s Organic Growers Club\/Oak Creek Farm.\u00a0 Although harvest time is coming to an end, Cascadia Market in the new <a href=\"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/uhds\/halls_coops\/buildings\/llc.php\">International Living and Learning Center<\/a> still offers some selections such as tomatoes, hot peppers and bell peppers.\u00a0 UHDS also supports many other local vendors.
