Courtesy APS news.<\/figcaption>\n    <\/figure>\n<p>IUPAP is an international organization formed in 1922 with the mission \u201cto assist in the worldwide development of physics, to foster international cooperation in physics, and to help in the application of physics toward solving problems of concern to humanity.\u201d In addition to its ongoing role in assuring international cooperation in Physics,\u00a0 IUPAP is occasionally asked, as the worldwide organization for the field, to endorse international agreements, such as the proposed modifications of the standard for SI units and C11&#8217;s reports on authorship standards in particle physics.<\/p>\n<p>Commission C11 is the body concerned with Particle and Fields.\u00a0 C11 oversees the major international conferences in the field and sponsors the <a href=\"http:\/\/icfa.fnal.gov\/\">International Committee on Particle Accelerators<\/a> and a Young Scientist Prize awarded every two years.<\/p>\n<p>See\u00a0 outgoing IUPAP President Bruce McKellar&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/physicstoday.scitation.org\/doi\/10.1063\/PT.3.3707\">recent article in Physics Today<\/a> for a longer explanation of IUPAP and its work in international development and equity.\u00a0 Or check out their website at <a href=\"http:\/\/iupap.org\">http:\/\/iupap.org<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Physics Dept.
