{"id":506,"date":"2017-08-10T20:45:48","date_gmt":"2017-08-10T20:45:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/spectrometer\/?p=506"},"modified":"2017-08-10T21:15:22","modified_gmt":"2017-08-10T21:15:22","slug":"eclipse-partial-campus-closure-no-classes-aug-21-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/spectrometer\/2017\/08\/10\/eclipse-partial-campus-closure-no-classes-aug-21-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Partial Campus Closure-No Classes Aug. 21, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Classes will not \u00a0be \u00a0held on Monday, Aug. 21, and most OSU operations and campus buildings will be closed. \u00a0Weniger Hall and the Department of Physics main office will be closed.<br \/>\n<\/strong>OSU will be hosting <a href=\"http:\/\/communications.oregonstate.edu\/space\">OSU150: A Total Eclipse Experience<\/a> August 19-21.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>From \u00a0Mike Green<br \/>\nInterim Vice President<br \/>\nOSU Finance and Administration<\/p>\n<p>As you likely know, a total solar eclipse will occur on Monday morning, Aug. 21, passing directly over the Willamette Valley and through Central Oregon on its way across the nation. As a result, Oregon is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of eclipse visitors from throughout the world. In anticipation, federal, state and local public agencies are preparing for significant traffic congestion and engaging in detailed advance safety plans.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, our Corvallis and OSU-Cascades campuses have extensive eclipse festival events planned for Aug. 19-21, including showcases of OSU Space Grant programs, as well as the innovative science and teaching conducted at the university. These eclipse activities include musical performances, public accommodations in our residence halls, and eclipse watch events.<\/p>\n<p>With the travel safety of our students, employees and the public in mind, OSU leaders have decided to limit university operations on Aug. 21 to those providing basic services to the visiting public and those essential to maintaining campus safety and security.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, classes will\u00a0<strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0be held, Monday, Aug. 21, and most OSU operations and campus buildings will be closed that day.<\/p>\n<p>University divisions located on the Corvallis campus that will be open and have extensive eclipse day plans include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Department of Public Safety and Oregon State Police<\/li>\n<li>Student Health Services<\/li>\n<li>University Housing and Dining Services<\/li>\n<li>Memorial Union<\/li>\n<li>Intercollegiate Athletics<\/li>\n<li>University Relations and Marketing<\/li>\n<li>Parking and Transportation Services<\/li>\n<li>Facilities Services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Meanwhile, OSU-Cascades classes will be cancelled, however all campus buildings will remain open for eclipse programming.\u00a0 The following OSU-Cascades departments should report to work as assigned:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Public Safety<\/li>\n<li>Housing and Dining Services<\/li>\n<li>Marketing and Communications<\/li>\n<li>Facilities and Operations, including Transportation<\/li>\n<li>Business Office<\/li>\n<li>Information Technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I also encourage you to engage with the many university employees and students, who are making plans for OSU Space Grant Festival activities in Corvallis, the Bend Eclipse Experience and the Orange &amp; Black Eclipse Festival in Central Oregon.
