{"id":913,"date":"2014-08-04T14:17:57","date_gmt":"2014-08-04T22:17:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/smile\/?p=913"},"modified":"2015-02-09T11:31:29","modified_gmt":"2015-02-09T19:31:29","slug":"fueling-future-activity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/smile\/2014\/08\/04\/fueling-future-activity\/","title":{"rendered":"Fueling Our Future Activity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last teacher workshop we previewed awesome <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/file\/d\/0B0FEoHyeIyePMEZ5V001QTZ3LU0\/edit\">middle school<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/file\/d\/0B0FEoHyeIyePakVlcjNXX2VlRXM\/edit\">high school<\/a> bioenergy textbooks from Facing the Future. \u00a0These books are filled with activities including <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/file\/d\/0B0FEoHyeIyePa1Eydi1DaVQ4OXc\/edit\">Sustainable Flight in the Pacific Northwest<\/a>, which is a great real life example. \u00a0In this activity students will research different biofuels and decide which one is best suited to be mixed with jet fuel. They will then trace the production process and explore stakeholder&#8217;s positions with their classmates. Collectively classmates must come up with a new jet fuel policy that satisfies all of their stakeholders. This activity encourages healthy debate and will allow students to act as policy makers.
