About OSU.SHPR

The School of History, Philosophy, and Religion combines a tradition of outstanding teaching and personal contact between student and instructor with diverse and innovative alternatives to the ways we currently understand ourselves, our environment, and our relation to society.

The School provides undergraduate and graduate education leading to baccalaureate and graduate degrees, but coursework is only the beginning!  We routinely sponsor lectures and conferences with leading scholars from around the world often providing our students an unparalleled opportunity to interact with leaders and experts on a personal basis.  There are also multiple active student groups and a variety of innovative community focused projects and internships that provide an opportunity to put thought into action.

We offer a BA degree (Hist, Phil), a BS degree (Phil), and minors (Hist, Phil) for undergraduate students.    Graduate students can earn an MA (Hist, Phil), an MS (Hist), and a Ph.D. (Hist).   Both History and Philosophy may also be used as a major and/or one of the minors in the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) degree program, or as a minor in other graduate programs.

We also provide an umbrella and home for the Thomas Hart and Mary Jones Horning Endowment in the Humanities, the George and Dorothy Carson Memorial Fund, the Hundere Endowed Chair of Religion and Culture, the Spring Creek Project, the Chun Chiu Conference Series, the IDEAS Matter Lecture Series, the American Culture and Politics Lecture Series, and the annual OSU Holocaust Memorial Week Observances.
