{"id":2168,"date":"2013-07-31T14:55:16","date_gmt":"2013-07-31T21:55:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/seagrantscholars\/?p=2168"},"modified":"2013-07-31T14:55:38","modified_gmt":"2013-07-31T21:55:38","slug":"july-at-oem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/seagrantscholars\/2013\/07\/31\/july-at-oem\/","title":{"rendered":"July at OEM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>July was a busy month here at OEM.\u00a0 Beginning\u00a0on January1,\u00a02014, the Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP) will be housed within the Oregon Business Development Department (OBDD), also known as Business Oregon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Click\u00a0here to read SB 813, which is the legislation that moved the SRGP from OEM to Busines\u00a0Oregon:\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.leg.state.or.us\/13reg\/measpdf\/sb0800.dir\/sb0813.en.pdf\">http:\/\/www.leg.state.or.us\/13reg\/measpdf\/sb0800.dir\/sb0813.en.pdf<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On July 16, OEM hosted the bi-monthly\u00a0Oregon Seismic Safety Policy Advisory Commission (OSSPAC) meeting.\u00a0\u00a0 At the meeting, Dr. Chris Goldfinger from OSU\u00a0gave a fascinating presentation that focused on the connection between the San Andreas and Cascadia faults.\u00a0 His presentation, titled\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;Reliability Analysis for Cascadia Earthquakes &amp; Relationship between the Cascadia Earthquake and the San Andreas Earthquake,&#8221; provided OSSPAC with more issues to think about in terms of preparing for the imminent Cascadia earthquake event.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here is an article from Dr. Goldfinger that\u00a0focuses on\u00a0this topic: <a href=\"http:\/\/ecosystems.wcp.muohio.edu\/studentresearch\/climatechange03\/elnino\/Holocene%20Seismicity.pdf\">http:\/\/ecosystems.wcp.muohio.edu\/studentresearch\/climatechange03\/elnino\/Holocene%20Seismicity.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On July 29, I had the opportunity to help fasciliate a meeting for the Coastal Community Resilience Network Pilot Project.\u00a0 Held at the Seaside Convention Center, the goal of this pilot project is to help\u00a0create a network between the coastal communties in Clackamas County in order to increase how resilient these communities will be in the case of a natural disaster, such as an earhquake or tsunami.\u00a0 The project is supported by NOAA&#8217;s Coastal Community Resilience Program and is being\u00a0led by the Oregon Partnership for Diasaster Resileince (OPDR), the Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD), and Oregon Sea Grant (OSG).\u00a0 The Principal Investigators for this project are Josh Bruce (OPDR), Jeff Weber (DLCD), and Pat Corcoran (OSG).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Click here for more information on this project: <a href=\"https:\/\/nrm.dfg.ca.gov\/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=64849\">https:\/\/nrm.dfg.ca.gov\/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=64849<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In August, I will be attending a meeting about the new Oregon Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan,\u00a0participating in a number of public\u00a0engagement events, and involved with\u00a0a ton of other important and exciting meetings, projects, and events.\u00a0 Stay tuned&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>July was a busy month here at OEM.\u00a0 Beginning\u00a0on January1,\u00a02014, the Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP) will be housed within the Oregon Business Development Department (OBDD), also known as Business Oregon.\u00a0\u00a0 Click\u00a0here to read SB 813, which is the legislation &hellip;
