BB331 Intro to Molecular Biology will immerse you this summer in the science and technology of genomes and will help you learn the latest about our molecular power to engineer heredity. You will be challenged to think about the consequences of our new technical abilities to sequence and examine entire genomes at low cost, to copy and share genetic information, and to edit, recombine and ultimately re-purpose the natural heritage of organisms. With a large dose of student participation, the course will delve into recent headlines such as restoring extinct species to life, eradicating disease-transmitting mosquitoes by genetically weakening them, and modifying the genomes of humans at conception using CRISPR technology. Free online resources will guide our scientific discussions, so you will save $$$ on the price of a book. Prerequisite: Chemistry 122 or any higher-numbered chemistry course. See you online in June!
