FW 528: DIVERSITY AND IDENTIFICATION OF LARVAL FISHES (E-CAMPUS) SPRING 2020

In the Spring quarter of 2020. I am going to teach an online course in ichthyoplankton taxonomy and systematics. The course is more comprehensive than the workshop (FW529) and includes lectures and discussion of morphology, systematics, sampling techniques, and curatorial challenges.

ICHTHYOPLANKTON LAB AND WORKSHOP

July 29th to August 3rd 2019

 

           Students (FW 529)                                                 Non-degree seeking participants

The lab and workshop is a 6-day intensive course dedicated to the systematics and identification of larval fishes. The goal is to equip participants with a skill set in identification of ichthyoplankton to family level or a lower taxonomic level. The lab will include daily lectures on taxonomic groups of marine fishes with the focal point on their larval characters. Participants are welcometo bring unidentified ichthyoplankton samples or mixed species lots to the course to help with their identification.

FOR NON-DEGREE SEEKING PARTICIPANTS: Course fees are $ 700 (does not include room and board), and it is limited to fifteen participants. The deadline for registration is June 1st. Please, fill out this short Application form and email it to peter.konstantinidis@oregonstate.edu before June 1st. The ideal way to pay the fees is by check. Please make it payable to Oregon State University and not to my name. USEFUL INFORMATION:

Transportation to and from Corvallis

Eugene (EUG) and Portland (PDX) are the airports to fly in to. There are two shuttle services from and to the airports, the Oregon ExpressShuttleand the HUT Shuttle. The BOLT Bus works well from and to Seattle. However, the BOLT Bus does not stop in Corvallis and you need to arrange a shuttle service (Oregon ExpressShuttle) from and to Albany.

 

Housing in Corvallis

Besides AirBnB there are several hotels available. The Hilton is about 10 walking minutes away from Nash Hall. The University Inn is located downtown and about a 20 minutes walk away from Nash Hall. OSU has Scholar Housing for short-term visits available. The minimum stay is three nights and you have to fill out a Reservation Form.
