{"id":421,"date":"2016-09-01T17:58:52","date_gmt":"2016-09-01T17:58:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/outreach\/?p=421"},"modified":"2016-09-01T18:05:57","modified_gmt":"2016-09-01T18:05:57","slug":"apps-boost-coastal-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/outreach\/2016\/09\/01\/apps-boost-coastal-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Apps aim to boost  coastal economies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-401\" style=\"margin: 4px 20px 7px 0px;border: 0px\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/outreach\/files\/2016\/08\/mobile-apps.jpg\" alt=\"mobile-apps\" width=\"350\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/1828\/files\/2016\/08\/mobile-apps.jpg 350w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/1828\/files\/2016\/08\/mobile-apps-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/seagrant.oregonstate.edu\/\">Oregon Sea Grant<\/a> has developed two apps for smartphones and tablets that aim to <strong>bolster the state\u2019s coastal economies and appeal to tourists and seafood lovers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The first app, <strong>Oregon\u2019s Catch<\/strong>, identifies locations along the entire Oregon coast where people can buy fresh and frozen seafood caught by Oregon fishermen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The second app, <strong>Oregon\u2019s Working Waterfronts<\/strong>, offers a self-guided tour of waterfronts in Coos Bay, North Bend and Charleston. Through video clips and photos, users get a behind-the-scenes look at local industries and infrastructure\u2014including a lumber mill, seafood processor, Coast Guard cutter, shipyard and tuna troller\u2014and the people who work in and on them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cFor tourists, I hope they learn something, stay a little longer, and have a greater appreciation for the Coos Bay area,\u201d says Jamie Doyle, an Oregon Sea Grant specialist with the <a href=\"http:\/\/extension.oregonstate.edu\/\">OSU Extension Service<\/a> who was involved with development of the apps. In addition to the app, Oregon Sea Grant produced a fold-out map of the same \u201cstops.\u201d The map will be available at local businesses and other attractions.
