{"id":319,"date":"2015-03-20T23:50:14","date_gmt":"2015-03-20T23:50:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/outreach\/?p=319"},"modified":"2015-03-20T23:54:34","modified_gmt":"2015-03-20T23:54:34","slug":"arming-nursery-industry-pathogens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/outreach\/2015\/03\/20\/arming-nursery-industry-pathogens\/","title":{"rendered":"Arming nurseries against devastating plant pathogens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full\" style=\"margin: 4px 20px 7px 0px;border: 0px\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/outreach\/files\/2015\/03\/nursery.jpg\" alt=\"Nursery\" width=\"350\" height=\"218\" \/>The National Institute of Food and Agriculture recently awarded a $2.9 million grant to an OSU team, led by Jeff Chang, Associate Professor in the College of Agricultural Sciences, to conduct research on broad host range, gall-forming bacterial diseases: plant diseases that are difficult to diagnose, spread quickly and easily, and eventually kill all infected plants.<\/p>\n<p>The research team has partnered with OSU\u2019s Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) unit to develop a series of online courses offered in both English and Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>According to Luisa Santamaria, OSU Extension specialist, 80\u201390 percent of the agricultural workforce in the United States is native Spanish speaking.
