{"id":306,"date":"2015-03-20T23:27:06","date_gmt":"2015-03-20T23:27:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/outreach\/?p=306"},"modified":"2016-04-04T18:34:16","modified_gmt":"2016-04-04T18:34:16","slug":"increasing-accessibility-through-hybrid-learning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/outreach\/2015\/03\/20\/increasing-accessibility-through-hybrid-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"Increasing accessibility through hybrid learning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full\" style=\"margin: 4px 20px 7px 0px;border: 0px\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/outreach\/files\/2015\/03\/hybrid.png\" alt=\"Hybrid learning\" width=\"350\" height=\"218\" \/>With the explosion of smart phones and tablets, instantly accessible Internet and a limitless cloud, the way we gather and absorb information in 2015 is drastically different from the way our great-grandparents processed it in 1868 \u2013 and the ways in which we want to learn have changed, too.<\/p>\n<p>At Oregon State University, OSU Extension and the Center for Teaching and Learning are working to accommodate just that through hybrid learning, a combination of on-site meetings with a course instructor and online course work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea of hybrid is that the online and the on-site really shake hands,\u201d Hino said. \u201cI would hope that within three to five years, OSU Extension could have a very robust online presence for delivering the kinds of information that the citizens want in a hybrid format that\u2019s super convenient for them,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But hybrid learning is still new territory for OSU.<\/p>\n<p>Last spring, in a pilot program, a group of Extension faculty was offered the chance to develop hybrid learning opportunities. A few of those faculty members are now building their own hybrid courses, including a workshop in urban forestry, study skills for OSU Open Campus students and 4-H leadership training.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPart of our challenge is increasing access to a world that\u2019s increasingly online.
