Volunteer with BEavers HERE NOW

Are you an OSU student interested in mindfulness and helping others? Consider joining the BEavers HERE NOW team as a meditation facilitator! BEavers HERE NOW is a peer-led, guided , mindfulness meditation program. Peer volunteers facilitate 15 minute guided meditation sessions Monday – Friday at 1 p.m. in the Craft Center. The benefits of mindfulness include: stress reduction, better sleep, sharper concentration, anxiety management and happier relationships. Interested? Attend the upcoming training on Friday, May 10th from 3:30-5pm in MU 215 to learn about mindfulness, meditation and explore volunteer options with BEavers HERE NOW. No previous meditation experience necessary.

AmeriCorps Opportunities with College Possible

College Possible is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to support students from low-income backgrounds through the college admission and graduation process. AmeriCorps members are a critical component of the programs’ success, serving students during a 10- or 12-month commitment. The program offers a variety of opportunities for services, including coaching high school students towards college application and acceptance; supporting and mentoring college students through college graduation; writing funding grants and other proposals; or planning fundraising, graduation and community engagement events. Full-time AmeriCorps opportunities are now available in Chicago, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Omaha, Philadelphia and Portland, along with select college campuses in Iowa, Minnesota and Ohio.

Spring 2019 Career Development Events

Interested in learning about budgeting, credit scores, paying off debt and more? Check out the Career Development Workshop “Money Tips that College Students Should Know.” The event will take place on Thursday, May 23 from 12-1pm at Hallie Ford Center room 115. Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The training helps participants identify, understand, and respond to signs of addictions and mental illnesses. OSU will be holding a training on Friday, May 24 from 8am to 5pm. Availability is on a first come, first served basis and is limited to the first 30 participants who RSVP. If you are one of the first 30 participants to register, you will receive a confirmation email with the location of the training. Lunch will be provided at the event. Moore Family Center Fellowships for Summer 2019

CPHHS graduate and undergraduate students are invited to apply for three paid fellowships through Moore Family Center for Whole Grains, Nutrition, & Preventative Health and the OSU Extension Service during summer 2019. The MFC Healthy Community Outreach Fellowships will support local community nutrition and food security projects in Tillamook, Coos, and Klamath Counties. Next Steps Summer Camp

Oregon Pacific Area Health Education Center is looking for college students to  participate as camp counselors for their summer camp for low income, minority, under-represented and under-served youth in grades 11 and 12. Camp counselors will be responsible for running small group meetings and work groups, giving presentations, chaperoning students during all activities, and participating with students during program events. All meals, transportation and housing will be covered for program staff. The program will take place on the campus of Western Oregon University from June 28th -July 2nd. To apply, submit a resume and cover letter to Carmen Boone by May 24th. Applicants will be notified if they have been selected for the interview process by May 31st at 5pm. Interviews will take place on June 7th from 12-2pm.

Celebrating Undergraduate Excellence Showcase

Share your research or other scholarly work, gain presentation experience and add an extra skill to your résumé by participating in this annual showcase. Current undergraduates in all years of study, all academic disciplines and all stages of research or creative work are eligible to present. This event is sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Education and the Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and the Arts, and will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 9am-12pm in the MU Ballroom.

Undergraduate Student Council

The CPHHS Undergraduate Student Council (USC) is a group of undergraduate student representatives from within the College who serve as peer representatives to the administrative body of the college.

The undergraduate student council:

• Advise the Dean and Associate Deans on issues regarding the college’s undergraduate student body and act as a voice for the majority
• Share information pertaining to the College’s mission, vision and values to the undergraduate students
