Highlights
Volunteer Opportunity for MS Clinic
Winston Kennedy, the coordinator of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) exercise clinic, is looking for volunteers for fall. The MS clinic runs Mondays and Wednesdays 11am-12pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-6 pm. The only pre-requisites to volunteering are having an open mind and a willingness to help people with MS engage in exercise.
Orientation will be Wednesday, September 26, at 11 am in the Women’s Building Room 9 if you want to volunteer on Mondays and Wednesdays, or at 5 pm in the Women’s Building Room 9 if you want to volunteer Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Applications can be found in the Women’s Building in the hallway by Room 13. Sessions with participants will begin the week of October 1. If you have questions, contact Winston Kennedy.
Mental Health First Aid Training (MHFAT)
Public Safety is hosting two FREE 8-hour trainings in Cascade Hall Room 143: one on Wednesday, September 26, and another on Tuesday, October 9. You can attend either one, but you must attend the full training and bring your own lunch (you will not be able to leave the training to get lunch). If you’d like to become certified in Mental Health First Aid, contact Stephanie Kerst.
If you cannot make it to those trainings, there will be another one Wednesday, December 5, 8am-5pm. To secure this date and the training, they need to have 20-35 people register and attend the training. Please register for the December 5 training through this link. If the minimum of 20 registrants is not met by October 26, the training will be cancelled and any registrants will be notified of the cancellation.

Oregon Public Health Association Annual Conference
There’s still time to register for the 2018 OPHA Annual Conference and Meeting in Corvallis at the Early Bird rate! Take advantage of lower pricing until Tuesday, September 25. Registration prices will increase by $25 beginning Wednesday, September 26. The conference will be October 8-9. There is also a pre-conference workshop available for a discounted rate for students. You can attend the pre-conference workshop, the annual conference, or both!
Pre-Conference Workshop:
In this workshop led by experienced legislators, aides and public health advocates, participants will learn to become more effective in promoting state policies that improve public health. Using the Clean Energy Jobs Bill as a case study, attendees will explore Oregon’s legislative process and build skills for strategic written and oral communication with legislators.
Date: Sunday, October 7, 2018, 1pm-4:30pm
*Followed by an optional social hour to continue the conversation

Research Ready Workshop
Are you wondering how to get involved in undergraduate research or creative work with a faculty mentor? This process can be confusing so we’re here to help! The Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and the Arts is hosting a workshop on October 3 where they will discuss the benefits of working with a professor at OSU, how to identify and contact the professor you want to work with, and how to apply for specific programs that provide funding to engage in research. You’ll also have an opportunity to hear directly from a panel of undergraduate researchers about what their experiences were like and a panel of professors about what they look for in undergraduate researchers.

Pre-Therapy and Allied Health Club
The Pre-Therapy and Allied Health Club supports students pursuing careers within the allied health professions. The club provides students with volunteer and job opportunities and a chance to advance their knowledge in the field. The club strives to make a positive impact in the community by promoting healthy and active lifestyles.
The organization allows students an opportunity to network with local professionals, participate in on-campus visits from graduate programs, volunteer in the greater Corvallis community and raise awareness for individuals with disabilities. In order to provide members with a beneficial experience, the PTAH Club leadership is committed to helping students prepare for graduate programs, discover potential career paths, gain a professional knowledge base and reach out to the local community.
