OSU Scholar Dollars Application
All newly-admitted and continuing OSU students are invited to use OSU ScholarDollars to submit an application for the nearly $50 million in campus-based scholarship funding that will be awarded for the 2019-2020 academic year. Most scholarships have an application deadline on or after February 15th. To apply, complete an application by logging into the system with your ONID username and password. Join the CPHHS Team for the “Out of the Darkness” Walk
This year, the nationwide campaign “Out of the Darkness” will have its first walk at OSU to assist in suicide awareness and prevention. Students, staff, faculty and alumni in CPHHS are invited to join the College of Public Health and Human Sciences team in an effort to come together and support this cause. The goals of this event are to reduce stigma, educate on resources, support loss survivors, and raise money for local and national suicide prevention efforts. The walk will take place on Saturday, April 27th, 2019 from 11-1pm starting in the SEC Plaza (2251 Jefferson Way). Check-in and registration will begin at 10am. To register to walk on the day of the event, click “Join the CPHHS Team” and create a profile. To support this program financially, use the “Donate” button. All donations are tax deductible. Join the Oregon Health Authority/VISTA Project Starting in Spring 2019
Interested in building healthy communities and your career? The Oregon Health Authority/VISTA project is now recruiting for 12 positions to serve with the Oregon VISTA team from April 15, 2019 to April 13, 2020. Team members will serve a challenging and rewarding year of national service leading anti-poverty public health initiatives and building public health systems capacity in agencies and communities across the state of Oregon. Benefits include $12,278-$14,626 living allowance for the year, a $6,095 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or $1,800 post-service stipend, student loan forbearance or deferment while in service for qualified federal loans, and more. Candidates are interviewed and selected as applications are received, so apply as soon as possible! Positions must be filled no later than March 15. New Health Promotion and Health Behavior Courses Available for Spring 2019
Two new Spring 2019 electives are now open for Public Health (Health Promotion and Behavior) students. Evidence-Based Health Promotion (H 376) is open to any student who meets the pre-requisites H 100 and H 225. The course teaches students how to identify best practices and select appropriate programs to address current health issues, and is a good way to prepare for the the required course Health Program Planning (H 476). Drugs, Society and Human Behavior (H 364), discusses the impact of substance use/abuse on the physical, psychological and social health of individuals and how this relates to public health. Students will be asked to debate topics that relate to drug use in society and provide thoughts on how to address these contemporary health issues. Prerequisites have been waived for this course. New Toxicology Course Available for Spring 2019
Fundamentals of Toxicology (TOX 411/511) provides students with an introduction to the discipline of toxicology. This course is designed for Toxicology minors, undergraduate majors in Public Health, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Biochemistry and Integrated Biology and first year grad students. Students will become familiar with basic principles such as dose-response and understand how drugs and environmental chemicals in daily exposure are absorbed, distributed, metabolized and eliminated by the body. Benton Community Foundation Scholarship Opportunity
The Benton Community Foundation is offering four $5,900 scholarships through the Margaret Dowell- Gravatt, MD, Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is to encourage and support ethnic minority undergraduate women enrolled in the College of Science and pursuing a BA or BS degree in Integrated Biology (previously Zoology) or Microbiology or one of the following Pre-Health programs: Medical Technology, Medicine, Nursing, Physical and/or Occupational Therapy. Students will be enrolled full-time at the Sophomore, Junior or Senior level, have a GPA of 2.5 overall and 3.0 in science courses required in the major field or the Pre-Health curriculum in which the student is enrolled. Research Funding Opportunity
Apply for the Jason Seeley Undergraduate Research Memorial Award if you are an undergraduate student in the CPHHS who is or will be involved in research aligned with the mission and emphases of the Hallie Ford Center for Healthy Children & Families. Your research does not need to occur within the context of projects housed at the Hallie Ford Center. You may be working on faculty research projects or conducting your own research under the supervision of a faculty member. Preference will be given to students who are working on projects related to childhood nutrition, obesity prevention, diabetes management, or pediatric cancer.
All students applying for scholarships are required to upload a current CV. Competitive applicants for the Jason Seeley Undergraduate Research Memorial Award will include at the end of their CV a statement (maximum of 200 words) describing the research, outlining their responsibilities with the research, and identifying the name of the faculty member leading or supervising the research. Students can log on and upload a revised CV that includes a statement about their research if they have already applied for scholarships using ScholarDollars.

University Food Drive in February
Every year during the month of February, OSU comes together and plans a wide variety of food and fund-raising activities to help the hungry. Proceeds from the OSU Corvallis campus benefit the non-profit agencies served in Linn-Benton Food Share. These agencies include local food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, day care centers, shelter homes, and gleaning groups in Linn and Benton counties. The 2019 Food Drive will take place from February 1st – February 28th. To learn more about ways to help or what can be donated, see the website. Here are some ways to contribute:
- Write a check or give cash (Be sure to give it to your department’s food drive coordinator)

Valentine’s Day Volunteer Opportunity: Cupid’s Crew
OSU student volunteers are needed to help deliver roses to Veterans this Valentine’s Day! Cupid’s Crew is a special event put on by a collaboration between Vital Life Foundation, Oregon Veterans Home and Wish of a Lifetime. Student volunteers will deliver roses to each Veteran and spend some time talking with them. Students are encouraged to wear red. A limited number of T-shirts will also be available. The event will take place on February 14th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Oregon Veterans Home (600 N 5th St, Lebanon, OR 97355). Interested? Sign up online!

The Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship & the Arts (URSA) is hiring a team of Undergraduate Research Ambassadors for the 2019-2020 school year. As an Ambassador, students will help other undergraduates learn about how to get involved in research and establish creative partnerships with faculty across campus. Ambassadors will work with the Associate Director of Undergraduate Research by serving as a role model and mentor to students interested in research or creative projects, giving presentations about how to get involved, developing online resources, planning social and networking opportunities, advising students, and more! The Society of Healthcare Executives is associated with The Oregon Society of Healthcare Executives (OSHE). The Oregon Society of Healthcare Executives is American College of Healthcare Executive’s (ACHE) professional society in Oregon. SHE also works closely with ACHCA, the student organization that focuses specifically on the long term care industry. Dual membership in both SHE and ACHCA is common for HMP majors.
