Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The training helps participants identify, understand, and respond to signs of addictions and mental illnesses. OSU will be holding a training on Friday, May 24 from 8am to 5pm. Availability is on a first come, first served basis and is limited to the first 30 participants who RSVP. If you are one of the first 30 participants to register, you will receive a confirmation email with the location of the training. Lunch will be provided at the event. Moore Family Center Fellowships for Summer 2019

CPHHS graduate and undergraduate students are invited to apply for three paid fellowships through Moore Family Center for Whole Grains, Nutrition, & Preventative Health and the OSU Extension Service during summer 2019. The MFC Healthy Community Outreach Fellowships will support local community nutrition and food security projects in Tillamook, Coos, and Klamath Counties. Next Steps Summer Camp

Oregon Pacific Area Health Education Center is looking for college students to  participate as camp counselors for their summer camp for low income, minority, under-represented and under-served youth in grades 11 and 12. Camp counselors will be responsible for running small group meetings and work groups, giving presentations, chaperoning students during all activities, and participating with students during program events. All meals, transportation and housing will be covered for program staff. The program will take place on the campus of Western Oregon University from June 28th -July 2nd. To apply, submit a resume and cover letter to Carmen Boone by May 24th. Applicants will be notified if they have been selected for the interview process by May 31st at 5pm. Interviews will take place on June 7th from 12-2pm.

Job Opportunity for Pre-Physical Therapy Students

The Albany Rebound Physical Therapy outpatient clinic is now hiring a full-time Rehab Aide (40 hours, Monday-Friday). Duties include assisting the therapists and front office workers, prepping rooms, setting up patients on modalities, pool maintenance, ordering supplies for the office, and smaller tasks that will help keep workflow run smoothly. This is a great opportunity for pre-physical therapy students graduating this spring that are looking to take a year off while or who are waiting to apply for PT school. AmeriCorps Opportunities with College Possible

College Possible is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to support students from low-income backgrounds through the college admission and graduation process. AmeriCorps members are a critical component of the programs’ success, serving students during a 10- or 12-month commitment. The program offers a variety of opportunities for services, including coaching high school students towards college application and acceptance; supporting and mentoring college students through college graduation; writing funding grants and other proposals; or planning fundraising, graduation and community engagement events. Position Openings for the Student Health Advisory Board

The Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB) acts as a link between Student Health Services (SHS), Associated Students of Oregon State University (ASOSU), Student Fee Committee (SFC), and the general student population, and is looking for board members for the 2019-20 school year! Students must be available one hour a week for SHAB meetings and be committed to serving on the board for at least one year. Board members will be involved in evaluating proposed budgets for SHS, promoting services to the general student population, identifying initiatives that promote a healthy university community, and more. Apply to be a board member by May 10 at 5pm, and contact SHAB Advisor Sara Caldwell with any questions.

Peace Corps Information Sessions

The Peace Corps is always in need of public health volunteers for its 27-month assignments abroad. Currently, there are 294 public health positions open in eight different countries (Ethiopia, South Africa, Ghana, Albania, Tanzania, Senegal, Guatemala and Peru) that depart between January and March of 2020.  Peace Corps recruiter Scot Roskelley will be conducting a public health focused Peace Corps info sessions at 12pm on Thursday, May 23 in Hallie Ford Room 225. He will discuss roles of public health volunteers in the Peace Corps, the types of backgrounds the Peace Corps is looking for from volunteers, and some of the perks of service that come along with being a Peace Corps volunteer.  Students who are not able to attend the info session can schedule a one-on-one appointment with Scott via email.

Women of Color Caucus

The Women of Color Caucus (WoCC) aims to celebrate, empower, and advocate for women of color at Oregon State University (OSU) by focusing on the professional development of women of color in all disciplines to enable them to become successful contributors to their field. This mission will be accomplished by providing support, community, and resources for women of color at OSU, while enriching OSU with the contributions of often silenced people.

WoCC seeks to center issues, knowledge, and experiences of women of color, and provide a safe space to build meaningful connections, and support the advancement of women of color.
