It is prime registration time! If you are a first-year freshman student, don’t forget to make a 25-minute appointment with your assigned academic advisor in order to receive your Registration PIN for Winter Term courses. For all other students, if you are struggling to find classes or put together a schedule for Winter, feel free to make an advising appointment with your assigned advisor or a Peer Advisor at CPHHS Appointments.

First-Year Freshman Students: Requirements for Winter Registration PIN

All First-Year Freshman students are required to make a 25-minute appointment with their assigned academic advisor in order to receive their Registration PIN for Winter Term courses.

Registration HOLDS

Please check to see if you have any HOLDS on your student account. You can check MYDEGREES (go to MYOSU > STUDENT > MY STUDENT STUFF > MY DEGREES) in the HOLDS box at the top left. If you have ANY HOLDS, you need to resolve them prior to your REGISTRATION TIME. Otherwise, you will be blocked from registration.

The HEALTH SERVICES HOLD means you need to contact OSU’s STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES to make sure they have all your immunization/vaccine records. Vaccine Immunization Clinics will be held NOVEMBER 21. Visit http://studenthealth.oregonstate.edu/student-vaccine-clinics for more information.

Online HDFS Courses

Please remember that online HDFS classes are reserved for e-campus students during Phase I, but remaining spots are open to on-campus students after Phase II begins.

Volunteers Needed for Oregon Adaptive Sports–Skiing and Snowboarding

Oregon Adaptive Sports is an organization that provides outdoor opportunities to individuals with disabilities. They are looking for strong skiers and/or snowboarders to work with disabled individuals to help them experience Hoodoo Ski Area. OSU Faculty-led Study Abroad: Exploring Food Security and Sustainability on a Tropical Island (Puerto Rico)

Before and during the program, you will work with other Oregon State students to plan and build greenhouses and plan, design, and teach agricultural-based curriculum that focuses on sustainable practices. You will also explore how agriculture can help build more food security and sustainability in Puerto Rico while simultaneously protecting the fragile endemic and native species and ecosystems. URSA Engage:

Here’s an opportunity to engage in partnerships with faculty outside of the classroom while getting paid! The goal of URSA Engage is to provide first-year students, second-year students, and transfer students in their first year at OSU opportunities to pursue research or a creative activity under the guidance of an OSU mentor. Students who are selected will receive an award of $750; their faculty mentors will receive $250 in development funds. The program is available to undergraduates across all academic disciplines. Projects will take place from the middle of winter term 2018 through the end of spring term 2018 (15 weeks at 5 hrs/week).

Interested? Follow these steps:

Go to the URSA Engage website and read through the faculty mentor project descriptions.
RSVP and attend one of our facilitated informational/networking workshops (not required but highly recommended). Each faculty mentor project description will tell you which workshop that faculty mentor will be attending.
Reach out to faculty via email, and set up meetings to discuss applying to the program.
After you find a mentor, have your faculty mentor read your final application and sign the Faculty Mentor Approval Form, which must be attached.
Submit the program application!

Survivor Support Group

The Survivor Advocacy and Resource Center (SARC) has a Survivor Support Group that meets Wednesdays in Plageman 311, from 3:30-5pm.

H 199 Introduction to Health Promotion and Health Behavior Professions, Winter 2018

The Health Promotion and Health Behavior program is offering H 199 in Winter 2018, a 1-credit course called “Introduction to Health Promotion and Health Behavior Professions.” This course is ideal for Freshmen/Sophomores/Juniors considering a major or minor in Public Health, with an emphasis in Health Promotion and Health Behavior. The course is restricted to Public Health majors and minors; however, an academic advisor can provide an override for the course. During the course, students will engage with community-based public health practitioners, HPHB professors, the HPHB internship coordinator, the HPHB advisors, and the Health Sciences Career Development liaison. Students will explore their public health interests related to Health Promotion and Health Behavior and define an elective plan for their Public Health degree.
