Youth Voices in Action Conference Volunteers Needed
The Oregon 4-H Outreach Leadership Institute – Youth Voices in Action Conference for 8th-12th graders from underserved communities is seeking volunteers! This is a unique opportunity for college students age 18-25 interested in working with high school students, and will take place the first half of spring break, Sunday, March 24 to Wednesday, March 27, 2019. This conference focuses on providing students with real-world opportunities to develop their leadership skills, critical thinking skills, and learn about civic engagement. Participants will attend hands-on workshops, tour the Oregon State Capitol, and listen to keynote speakers on various topics. Additionally, they will be put into groups, referred to as Action Teams, to work together to solve a real challenge given to them by various state agencies and organizations. We are seeking help from college students to be the facilitators for these groups! Facilitators will support a group of 8th-12th grade students (an Action Team) as they solve a challenge question from a state agency, guide their transition from group to team and encourage cooperation and participation from all members. Applicants must have the ability to work with diverse groups of people, coach and allow others to be leaders, communicate effectively, mediate conflict, and employ critical thinking. Interested? Contact Mario Magaña Álvarez at 541-737-0925. For further information, visit the OSU Extension Service website.
