{"id":7536,"date":"2012-10-12T22:00:29","date_gmt":"2012-10-12T22:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wpmu.library.oregonstate.edu\/oregon-multicultural-archives\/?p=7536"},"modified":"2012-10-12T22:00:29","modified_gmt":"2012-10-12T22:00:29","slug":"oma-and-clase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/oregonmulticulturalarchives\/2012\/10\/12\/oma-and-clase\/","title":{"rendered":"The OMA and CL@SE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/oregonmulticulturalarchives\/files\/2012\/10\/clase_poster.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7541 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/wpmu.library.oregonstate.edu\/oregon-multicultural-archives\/files\/2012\/10\/clase_poster.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"412\" height=\"646\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/3293\/files\/2012\/10\/clase_poster.png 412w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/3293\/files\/2012\/10\/clase_poster-191x300.png 191w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 412px) 100vw, 412px\" \/><\/a> CL@SE Inaugural Week Poster<\/p>\n<p>This past week was the inaugural week of OSU&#8217;s Center for Latino\/a Studies and\u00a0Engagement (CL@SE) and the OMA was excited to be a part of the festivities.<\/p>\n<p>CL@SE&#8217;s mission is to promote engaged research and outreach devoted to advancing knowledge and understanding of Latino\/a contributions and the issues surrounding the population in Oregon, the region, and beyond.\u00a0For more information about the development history of the center, click here for a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/researchupdate\/2011\/11\/08\/latinolatina-studies-new-center\/\" target=\"_blank\">2011 article about the newly formed center. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The week&#8217;s events began with a panel discussion of the history of the Latino\/a community in Oregon, especially\u00a0highlighting the Bracero Program in Oregon and the resources that we have available through the OMA and the Valley Library: <a href=\"http:\/\/oregondigital.org\/sets\/braceros\/\" target=\"_blank\">Braceros Photograph Collection<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opb.org\/programs\/oregonexperiencearchive\/braceros\/\" target=\"_blank\">OPB&#8217;s Braceros in Oregon episode<\/a>, and the documentary <a href=\"http:\/\/harvestofloneliness.com\/englishversion\/english.html\" target=\"_blank\">Harvest of Loneliness<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday night Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. gave the keynote address in which he spoke about his personal and professional experiences. He expressed the need\u00a0for change in the United States&#8217; immigration, agriculture, and education policies as they relate to the Latino\/a population. The many young students in attendance were definitely inspired by his call to leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday night was the opening reception of an art exhibition by Analee Fuentes,\u00a0\u201cDel Corazon (By Heart)\u201d featuring paintings that reflect Fuentes\u2019 identity as a third-generation Chicana who grew up around Latino communities the United States.
