This Spring Term the OMA was incredibly excited to work with the class Ethnic Studies\u00a0553: Ethnohistory Methodology taught by Professor Natchee Barnd. The students\u00a0used archival resources both in the OMA and the Benton County Historical Society<\/a> to showcase the histories of the Corvallis area’s traditionally marginalized groups including\u00a0people of color, women, and members of the LGBTQ community.\u00a0The class\u00a0researched and wrote the stories and complied them into a fantastic\u00a0downtown walking tour. And,\u00a0with the\u00a0assistance of the OSU Libraries, there is now a Tour Web\u00a0App<\/a> as well!<\/p>\n

The class consisted of four students who each researched and wrote about a different Corvallis area story:<\/p>\n

Together the students complied a\u00a0set of 16 stories and chose locations of significance around the Corvallis downtown area to highlight the histories based on 5 themes\u00a0~\u00a0 resilience, community, visibility,\u00a0home, and mobility:<\/p>\n

\u00a0The June 4th Tour!<\/p>\n

At the end of the term, the class invited a group of OSU community members to take part in a student led tour and the OMA was there (check out the photos below).<\/p>\n

And, the tour was featured\u00a0in the Gazette-Times<\/em>;\u00a0check out the article “Giving Due to the Marginalized” by Canda Funqua\u00a0<\/a>with photos by Andy Cripe.<\/p>\n
