Teacher PD survey deadline extended

Great news… there’s still time for teachers to fill out the STEM Professional Development survey!

The survey deadline has been extended to June 13th in an attempt to gain more participation.

So far, 259 coastal teachers have taken the survey.  However, 68% of these responses have come from teachers in only four school districts, and there are fewer or no responses from the other 10 districts on the coast.  It is imperative that teachers from every region fill out the survey so that all needs can be identified and programs can be developed next year that meet each district’s needs.

Thanks to everyone who can help promote this important survey to all teachers at this busy time of the year!

Teacher STEM PD Survey

A significant focus of the Hub will be coordinating STEM educator professional development, and we need input from teachers in all Oregon coast school districts to ensure we focus on what is needed in the various regions.

Teachers, please take a few moments to follow the link below and complete a 14-question survey by June 6th.

Many thanks from the Oregon Coast Regional STEM Hub team.

Community Meetings

IMG_2861Welcome to the Oregon Coast Regional STEM Hub blog.  This space will be one of several ways the public can connect with and learn about the Hub.  We also have a Facebook page, and a website is in development.

We are now in Phase 1 of the STEM Hub grant!  The first step has been to hold a series of community meetings up and down the coast to engage participants, map existing assets and conduct needs assessments as they relate to STEM education.  The meetings were held at the following locations:

  • Newport – Oregon Coast Community College – April 17, 2014
  • Astoria – Clatsop Community College – May 1, 2014
  • Tillamook – Tillamook Bay Community College – May 7, 2014
  • Coos Bay – Southwestern Oregon Community College – May 15, 2014

Now that these four community meetings have concluded, members of the STEM Hub Backbone are sorting through the collected materials to create lists of resources and needs, and are identifying people who could make up the Steering Committee and four Working Sub-Committees.

Coming Soon:  An online survey for teachers to collect additional information about STEM professional development needs.  This survey will be distributed after the holiday weekend.
