1:00 – 2:00 pm –      Session One: Generational Healing

Intergenerational trauma, also known as historical trauma, can negatively impact a family, a community, or a people. In this session, panelists will discuss how this particular form of trauma is passed down and consider its long-term effects.

2:00 – 2:15 pm –      Break
2:15 – 3:25 pm –      Session Two: My Nappy Roots, Film Screening + Panelists
  • Brighton and Regina Kimbell– Film Directors/Facilitators

    Join us for a screening of My Nappy Roots: A Journey Through Black Hair-itage, a 2008 American documentary film directed by Regina Kimbell and written by her daughter, Brighton Kimbell. This mother-daughter team explore the politics and history of African American hair, and describe how the European ideal of beauty has influenced Black hair through modern history. The documentary details the political and cultural influences that have dominated dialogue surrounding African and African American hairstyles from styling patterns and cultural trends to the business of the Black hair care industry.

    Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion and talk back circle with local leading hairstylists and academics in the field of Black body politics and identity.
