After returning home from serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, Phil Hall (’53), pursued a career in the logging industry, which he continued for a number of years. Before his GI Bill expired, he decided to go to college to become a pharmacist. Being married to his wife, Grace Hall, and having a child made it difficult to find a college that would accommodate his family’s needs. He applied to several schools unsuccessfully, until applying to Oregon State. Not only was he accepted into the pharmacy program but he received help with housing and finding a job. During his years in pharmacy school, he and Grace had another child, and later had three more. After graduating in 1953 and working several places, the Hall family ended up owning two pharmacies. Phil retired in 1987. The couple was fortunate to have been married sixty-seven years before Phil passed away in 2012. As a result of their experience at Oregon State, the Hall family continues to be loyal Beavers!
