Congratulations to Dr. Marie Dorsey (’07) for being selected as Pharmacists Mutual Distinguished Young Pharmacist.Dr. Dorsey works half time as an HIV Clinical Pharmacist for the HIV Alliance, and half time at PeaceHealth as an in-patient pharmacist. At the HIV Alliance, she is involved with the Pharmacist Medication Adherence Program, which includes counseling patients regarding medication adherence, checking medication lists for drug interactions, collaborating with physicians on appropriateness of therapy, and making drug recommendations. She plays a crucial role in developing the program to educate patients and providers about HIV and HIV therapy.

At PeaceHealth, Dr. Dorsey works with inpatient general medical, psychiatric, and geriatric patients.  She also works with outpatient anticoagulation, oncology, and infusions; as well as in the emergency department where she obtains accurate medication lists and assists with codes.

Since graduating from the College of Pharmacy in 2007, Dr. Dorsey has worked tirelessly to help promote HIV education.  She has given multiple HIV specific presentations to the staff at The Alliance as well as at OSPA conferences. She attends weekly live web conferences (ECHO) with other HIV specialists in the northwest. She has been an HIV specialist certified through the American Academy of HIV Medicine for two and a half years. This certification requires a certain number of HIV specific CE credits as well as passing a 125-question clinical question based exam every two years.  Currently, Dr. Dorsey is working with other HIV Pharmacists in California, Oregon, and Idaho to improve the Pharmacist Medication Adherence Program at The Alliance.  She has also traveled to Papua New Guinea and Guatemala as a medical missionary.

Working at The Alliance has allowed Dr. Dorsey to assist people living with HIV, so they may live more fulfilled, and longer lives through being able to take their medications correctly.  She enjoys helping others learn about HIV and HIV medications.
