This year, OSU Libraries continues to implement its strategic plan, including Goal 1b, to enhance its collection of electronic journals, databases and books. We are moving a number of journals to electronic subscriptions this year–over 600 individual titles. These titles will be listed in upcoming enews posts.

These titles join our existing electronic journal collections, which includes Elsevier Science Direct, Wiley Interscience and Springerlink. Our electronic journals can be accessed through the Library Catalog, or the Libraries’ E-Journals list.

We have moved our ANSI standards collection to the digital world. With our new subscription to the ANSI standards through Information Handling Services (IHS), you can search and obtain over 1,300 ANSI standards.

When you go to the IHS site, click on the Specs & Standards link. If you click on the Quick Searches tab on the upper left, you can limit the search to the titles included in our subscription. This subscription is only for ANSI standards – if you need a combined subscription (e.g., an ANSI/ASME standard), please contact Margaret Mellinger at margaret.mellinger@oregonstate.edu for assistance in acquiring the standard.

Very Important! Remember to logout after you finish using the ANSI standards database. We have a limited number of simultaneous users and other users might be locked out of the database. The logout button is in the upper right corner of the screen.

Early American Newspapers, Series I, 1690-1876. Also known as America’s Historical Newspapers. Series I offers more than 700 historical American newspapers from 23 states and the District of Columbia printed between 1690 and 1876. Focusing largely on the 18th century, Series I is based on Clarence S. Brigham’s “History and Bibliography of American Newspapers, 1690-1820” and other authoritative bibliographies.

The core of the collection is formed by American Antiquarian Society (AAS) founder Isaiah Thomas’ own collection of colonial and early national period newspapers and supplemented by issues added by Thomas’ successors at the AAS. Numerous other institutions and historical societies have contributed to the collection, including the Boston Athenaeum, the Connecticut Historical Society, the Connecticut State Library, the Library Company of Philadelphia, the Library of Congress, the libraries of universities such as Brown and Harvard and private collections.

The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 1,500 journals, as well as full text for more than 750 journals. This database also includes full text for more than 100 books and monographs, and full text for numerous education-related conference papers.
