Gale Fulltext: Problems in 1Search

Gale Full-text search results in 1Search have been problematic lately. We are working with the vendor to resolve the problem, but the problem is taking some time for them to resolve. In the meantime, here a few tips for working around these:

 

When Gale Full-text links in a 1Search result lead to an error page, the full-text may actually still be available in a Gale database.

Try navigating directly to the Gale database, and search for the article there: https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/az.php?v=27193

Sometimes Gale results will be part of a Multi-match record set (when the “See All” button appears):

SAGE Research Methods contains more than 1000 books, reference works, journal articles, and instructional videos. The site is designed to guide users to the content they need to learn a little or a lot about their method. The Methods Map can help those less familiar with research methods to find the best technique to use in their research.

SAGE Research Methods Cases are stories of how real research projects were conducted. The collection provides more than 1100 case studies, showing the challenges and successes of doing research, written by the researchers themselves.  They explain why the researchers chose the methods they did, how they overcame problems in their research and what they might have done differently with hindsight: the realities of research that are missing from journal articles and textbooks.

SAGE Research Methods Datasets is a collection of teaching datasets and instructional guides that give students a chance to learn data analysis by practicing themselves. Through practicing analysis using real data from SAGE Research Methods Datasets, students can see how analytic decisions are made, helping them to become confident researchers.

SAGE Research Methods Video contains more than 125 hours of video, including tutorials, case study videos, expert interviews, and more, covering the entire research methods and statistics curriculum. Videos can also be embedded into course management systems for exam preparation. Through these videos, students can find extra help and support to guide them through every step of their research project and succeed in their research methods course.

New ProQuest Periodicals Available

Education Magazine Archive provides access to the digitized backfiles of 26 major magazines and trade publications in the field of education, dating from the early 20th century through to the 21st. The publications cover a wide range of educational topics, from general titles (e.g. American Teacher, Times Educational Supplement), to subject-specific publications (e.g. Mathematics Teaching, Technology and Engineering Teacher), titles aimed at educational leaders (English Leadership Quarterly), and material devoted to women and ethnic minorities in education (Delta Kappa Gamma Bulletin, Black Collegian). Many educational sectors and levels are represented from early years teaching (e.g. Teaching K-8) to higher education (Higher Education Management and Policy), from vocational education (Techniques) to independent schools (Conference & Common Room) and distance learning (Mailbox Teacher).

Trial Access: The Philosophy Documentation Center

The Philosophy Documentation Center is a non-profit publisher of reference materials, scholarly journals, book series, conference proceedings, and other materials in a variety of disciplines such as philosophy, business and professional ethics, catholic tradition, history, language and Literature, Religion. The publications are from a variety of countries. While most content is in English, some material in French, German, Spanish, Korean, Russian, and Chinese is also available.

 

Through March 31, 2018, the full-text of all e-journal content in Philosophy Documentation Center (over 170 titles) is available to the OSU Community.

Trial Database: China Academic Journals Full-text Database

The China Academic Journals Full-text Database is an extensive Chinese journal database that comprises Science and Technology publications in subject areas such as Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Biology Environmental Science Architecture, and Engineering. Also included are publications focused on Agriculture, Medicine, Literature, History, Philosophy, and Economics. Content dates for some titles span as early as 1951, and much current content is available for many included titles.
