The College of Science Student Advisory Board (COSSAB) invites all new science students to its annual Fall Welcoming Social on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in front of Kidder Hall on the Valley Library Quad. New students are urged to attend to learn more the academic, career and extracurricular opportunities\u00a0available as well as all of the academic resources\u00a0in our College and at OSU.<\/p>\n
You can enjoy ice cream and sorbet floats while connecting with current science students and new ones. You can learn ways to get involved in campus\u00a0life, where to meet people, where the best study spots are on campus and where the science tutoring\u00a0centers are like the Mole Hole, Worm Hole, Math and Statistics Learning Center and more. Faculty, professional advisors, career development staff and Peer Advisors will be on hand to share advice about courses, study habits, registration, time management tips and what a life of science at Oregon State is all about.<\/p>\n
New students\u00a0can chat with representatives from science student clubs<\/a> from across disciplines.\u00a0Science\u00a0students are among some of the most\u00a0active on campus. Getting involved in one of our science organizations can be one of the most rewarding experiences for students. It helps make the most of classroom\u00a0learning, helps you find the best path for your career and connect with our\u00a0OneScience community<\/a>. Science organizations can also help build leadership skills and expand your social circle.<\/p>\n At this event, we encourage you to join the Peer Mentoring Program, which is coordinated by science students from the various student organizations. The program pairs new students up with a mentor who is either a sophomore, junior or senior science major. Peer to peer mentoring helps new students connect with more experienced students to foster collaboration and support as they begin their academic career in science.<\/p>\n Peer mentors not only share valuable knowledge but also share lessons learned from their own past mistakes and offer advice to new students\u00a0to ensure their\u00a0success in science. of which is tremendously helpful in science.<\/p>\n Welcome to Oregon State Science!<\/p>\n This event is organized by COSSAB, which comprises representatives from all of our science student organizations, from mathematics, physics and chemistry to biohealth sciences, biochemistry & biophysics, microbiology and biology among others.
