{"id":7875,"date":"2017-08-15T15:06:57","date_gmt":"2017-08-15T22:06:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/impact\/?p=7875"},"modified":"2018-06-26T16:34:37","modified_gmt":"2018-06-26T23:34:37","slug":"omsi-recruits-fall-2017-cohort-earth-space-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/impact\/2017\/08\/omsi-recruits-fall-2017-cohort-earth-space-science\/","title":{"rendered":"OMSI recruits fall cohort in earth and space science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just in time for the eclipse: \u00a0The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is recruiting for its fall 2017 cohort of the <a href=\"https:\/\/omsi.edu\/science-communication-services\">Science Communication Fellowship program<\/a>, geared especially for those in Earth and\/or Space Science.<\/p>\n<p>OMSI has numerous scholarships available for students, researchers, practitioners, and others in the field of Earth and\/or Space Science.\u00a0Tuition for the program is $1,500 per participant.<\/p>\n<p>All science students, OSU-affiliated graduate students, faculty, staff and post-docs\u00a0are encouraged to apply! The deadline for the\u00a0fall cohort is <strong>Wednesday, August 23.<\/strong>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/omsimuseum.wufoo.com\/forms\/wcpzod61d9hwym\/\">Apply online<\/a> for both the fellowship and the scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>OMSI\u2019s Science Communication Fellowship prepares STEM professionals to effectively communicate with the public about their work through a series of engaging, interactive professional development workshops.\u00a0 Fellows also develop a unique, hands-on demonstration about their work that they can share with the public at bi-monthly \u201cMeet a Scientist\u201d events at the museum.<\/p>\n<p>The Science Communication Fellows will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in OMSI&#8217;s Science Communication &#8220;Short Course,&#8221; a series of four professional development workshops focused on building skills to effectively communicate with public audiences. Workshops are 3\u20134 hours each, spaced over the course of three to four months.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with museum\u00a0educators to develop a unique, hands-on activity and display representing each Fellow&#8217;s work.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in a minimum of three \u201cMeet a Scientist\u201d programs per year. The public programs take place on the second Saturday of each month and exclusively feature OMSI Fellows with their hands-on, table-top activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The OMSI Science Communication Fellowship program is an excellent way to fulfill broader impact and outreach goals required for grant-funded research currently underway at OSU.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Earth and Space Sciences Scholarships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Three Fellowship scholarships are available for researchers, practitioners, students, and others who are working in the field of Earth and\/or Space Science, with particular emphasis in Earth Science, Planetary Science, Heliophysics and Astrophysics.
