The College of Science is proud to be a key organizer of the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Oregon Academy of Science <\/a>(OAS) on February 25 held in Oregon State University’s Learning Innovation Center (LInC).<\/p>\n Undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs and faculty are encouraged to submit abstracts<\/a> and attend the conference. The deadline for abstract submission is January 31, 2017. All presenters must be members of the Oregon Academy of Science. But meeting registration fee includes membership dues for OAS, so it\u2019s easy to simultaneously submit an abstract and become a member. We welcome the participation of all continuing and prospective OAS members in the meeting, so please register and join OAS today!<\/p>\n The meeting provides offers an excellent opportunity for faculty to meet colleagues in the region and to recruit graduate students. Students can hone their presentation skills by describing their research, meet peers from institutions across Oregon and build their professional network.<\/p>\n Meetings will be held in LiNC, OSU’s newest classroom building. The four-story, technology-rich learning environment features more than 2,300 general purpose classroom seats in 14 unique, state-of-the-art classrooms, including arena- and parliament-style arrangements.<\/p>\n \u201cWe look forward to your participation in a rich day of Science, in a unique, inspiring environment,\u201d said OAS President Douglas Keszler, who is Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies<\/a> in OSU\u2019s College of Science.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Keszler is also a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, an adjunct professor in physics and the Director of\u00a0Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cOn behalf of the OAS, I invite you to participate in an exciting program of Science, as we pursue our mission to promote engagement in the sciences, mathematics, and engineering,\u201d adds Keszler.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Fellow chemistry professor Mas Subramanian<\/a>, 2016 OAS Outstanding Scientist and OSU\u2019s Milton Harris Professor of Materials Science, will present a plenary lecture entitled \u201cEureka! Discovery of a New Class of \u2018Cool\u2019 Inorganic Pigments for Art and Industry.\u201d<\/p>\n OSU Physics Professor Corrine Manogue and OSU Mathematics Professor Tevian Dray, 2016 OAS Outstanding Educators in Science and Mathematics<\/a>, will make an interactive presentation on \u201cLessons Learned from the Paradigms and Bridge Projects\u201d in LINC\u2019s unique 600-seat theatre in the round. Dray received the 2017 Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award<\/a> for Distinguished Teaching of Mathematics from the Mathematical Association of America at the\u00a02017<\/strong>\u00a0Joint Mathematics Meetings<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Atlanta January 4-7.<\/p>\n The agenda includes:<\/p>\n The 2016 Oregon Academy of Science meeting at Pacific University was a success and comprised 80 oral presentations and 24 posters covering 11 subject divisions and the Junior Academy.<\/p>\n\n\n
