{"id":1293,"date":"2018-05-20T00:48:30","date_gmt":"2018-05-20T07:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/hybridflc\/?p=1293"},"modified":"2018-05-20T00:48:30","modified_gmt":"2018-05-20T07:48:30","slug":"creating-seamless-student-learning-experience-merchandising-math","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/hybridflc\/2018\/05\/20\/creating-seamless-student-learning-experience-merchandising-math\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating a seamless student learning experience:  merchandising math"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In DSGN 472, <em>Merchandise Planning and Control<\/em>, students learn retail merchandising math at computational and conceptual levels.\u00a0 Currently, content is delivered through a series of lectures paired with in-class activities.\u00a0 Students apply what they learn through math homework assignments and Excel-based assignments developed with assistance from merchandising professionals.\u00a0 Current course learning outcomes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Solve and interpret mathematical problems related to merchandise planning and control.<\/li>\n<li>Use appropriate mathematical techniques throughout the six-month planning process.<\/li>\n<li>Apply qualitative, analytical, and technical skills to develop merchandise assortment plans that are in-line with specific target markets, geography, selling format, marketplace trends, and performance goals.<\/li>\n<li>Communicate rationale for decision-making throughout the assortment plan development process.<\/li>\n<li>Use industry-relevant technology to formulate and communicate merchandising decisions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Non-hybrid format:<\/strong>\u00a0 This 4-credit course meets twice a week (1 hour, 50 minute each session).
