Rain won\u2019t stop the HC from celebrating spring! A quick location change from lawn to indoor event space and the fun was back on track.<\/p>\n
Students, staff and faculty enjoyed good food, good company, board games and a photo booth!<\/p>\n
As is tradition at the HC spring picnic we recognized outstanding students for their dedication and contributions to the HC community. \u00a0Winners are nominated by HC staff and receive a monetary award.<\/p>\n
This year we recognized three recipients of the HC Outstanding Student Employee Award<\/b>: Emily Swanson, Hamza Molvi & Alec Westbrook<\/b>.<\/p>\n Hamza serves as an HC student designer and leads HC social media efforts. \u00a0He effectively communicates and confirms information, is easy to work with, is pleasant, and friendly. \u00a0Hamza provides professional details to all he touches. Thank you for your excellent work, Hamza!<\/p>\n Emily has served as lead staff person in the SLUG for the past year and a half. \u00a0She did an excellent job keeping the SLUG well-staffed and running smoothly. Her professionalism and warm smile will be missed by us all. Thank you, Emily and congratulations on your graduation!<\/p>\n Alec is a dedicated employee and student ambassador. \u00a0He arrives on time and stays to the last minute. He readily volunteers for events and for prospective student visits. \u00a0In his senior ambassador roll he demonstrates leadership and dependability. Thank you, Alec for you all you do!<\/p>\n This year\u2019s recipients of the HC Outstanding Student Service Awards <\/b>are Trisha Chau <\/b>and Dillon Koch (Cook)<\/b><\/p>\n Trisha has been a student leader within the honors college since she arrived on campus.\u00a0 She has served in leadership roles within the Honors College Student Association, the HC Student Leadership Circle and has served on the HC Curriculum Committee.\u00a0 Trisha has given a considerable amount of her time to bettering the Honors community and has worked this past year to assist with connecting students to career tours.\u00a0 Trisha has truly made the Honors College better through her service. Thank you Trisha!<\/p>\n In her role as student ambassador, Dillon has been steadfast, reliable and professional. Also working as an OSU tour ambassador and an RA in West Hall, Dillon has been a great connector for the HC with campus partners and was able to draw on her collective knowledge of OSU overall when communicating with prospective students and families. The Honors College Student association selects winners from the nominations.<\/p>\n 2018 nominees are:<\/b><\/p>\n Doug Clark<\/p>\n Prof. Rick Colwell<\/p>\n Eric Hill<\/p>\n Nathan Kirk<\/p>\n Amy Koehlinger<\/p>\n Dave Kovac<\/p>\n Joseph Orosco<\/p>\n Daniel Rockwell<\/p>\n And this year’s winner is Professor Doug Clark <\/b>!<\/p>\n Professor Clark was nominated by one student, and here is what the nominator had to say about him:<\/p>\n \u201cI took Civil Rights Movement and Policies (PS375H) with Professor Clark and I found he encouraged open discourse, depth of analysis, and nuance of opinion. He took a genuine interest in the ideas and lives of all of the students in the class. I grew in my own understanding of the subject, my ability to compare ideas with other students, and my ability to articulate what I believe.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Professor Clark took the time to meet with me in the term after I took the class to return my final paper and discuss its strength and weaknesses. I felt he knew me well enough to identify my passion and identify ways for me to refine my skills. I appreciated the way he invested in my learning beyond the course itself and into my goals for graduate school and economic policy.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Outstanding Course of the Year<\/b><\/p>\n In addition, this year the HC introduced the first ever HC Outstanding Course of the year to recognize some of the excellent classes offered. From the list of courses that were nominated, the Honors College Students Association then voted for the winner.<\/p>\n The 2018 Outstanding Course is: \u00a0HC 407: Commodities to Cafes taught by Professor James<\/b><\/p>\n Sterns<\/b>!<\/p>\n This course was nominated by one student, and here is what the nominator had to say about it:<\/p>\n \u201cThis course offered a unique look at the food and produce industry at all levels by a hands-on approach. The material is incredibly engaging when you are able to interact with industry professionals face-to-face and ask them questions about how our food gets to us from the beginning.
