Three Honors College (HC) students were recognized at the Oregon State University Women’s Center awards ceremony on May 19, 2014.

Deepthika Ennamuri, Lubra Khan, and Kristina Schnell each received a 2014 Student Leader Award, which honors undergraduate women who show outstanding contributions to scholarship, leadership, and service in the Oregon State community.

The three HC seniors were recognized for their campus engagement. Ennamuri, a biochemistry and biophysics major, served as a teaching assistant in two classes during her time at Oregon State and was chief editor of The Catalyst, the university’s undergraduate research journal. Khan, also a student in biochemistry and biophysics, has been instrumental in the creation of Ettihad Cultural Community, a Middle Eastern cultural resource center on campus, the first of its kind in Oregon. Schnell, who is graduating from the energy systems engineering program at OSU-Cascades and is also is majoring in Spanish, served as vice president and, later, president of the Associated Students of Cascades Campus.

Three faculty members – Margie Haak, Brenda McComb, and Indira Rajagopal – were also recognized with Women of Achievement Awards, given for extraordinary achievement in furthering the advancement of women and other marginalized populations at the university. Haak, a senior instructor in chemistry and Rajagopal, a senior instructor in biochemistry and biophysics, have both taught classes in the HC, and McComb, the dean of the OSU Graduate School, hosted an HC Faculty/Student Book Club in 2013. Rajagopal was named an HC Eminent Professor for 2013.

The Women’s Center is one of six cultural and resource centers on campus and has honored women of achievement for 30 years. These awards, nominated by faculty and chosen by committee members, are given to encourage women in their work across the university.
