Some of the biggest highlights of my first year at OSU were the trips with the Honors College each term. The first trip I went on was the weekend getaway to Sunriver in Central Oregon during winter term. During this trip, I finally got the chance to go sledding for the first time while some others decided to go skiing. Then during the evening, we all played games, danced, and baked cookies.
I also was lucky enough to go on the Spring Term trip, where we drove to the coast and camped in yurts for the weekend, which some might refer to as “glamping.” On this trip, we would take the short quarter-mile walk to the coast where we spent our days playing beach volleyball and building sand forts. Then at night, we would all sit around the fire and sing songs or just chat and joke around.
Both of these trips took place in some of the best and most beautiful landmark areas of Oregon: the mountains and the coast. But personally, my favorite part about these trips was being able to connect with other honors students so well within such a short amount of time. The first trip I went on, I vaguely knew one person out of the 40 people that decided to go. Because of this, I was incredibly shy at first. But I quickly realized how open and friendly everyone was. So within just three short days, I gained an entirely new group of friends that I still talk to, study with, and go on other adventures with today.
The trip itself was very fun, but it was mostly the people I met on these trips that have made my year fantastic. These trips really offer a great opportunity to meet new people because everyone can just relax and enjoy their time with each other. I loved hanging out with them during the trips. The people I met on these trips were so amazing, I plan on continuing our friendships throughout the school year and for many years to come.
