{"id":649,"date":"2016-11-07T16:25:35","date_gmt":"2016-11-07T16:25:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/historyofscience\/?p=649"},"modified":"2018-07-06T16:27:00","modified_gmt":"2018-07-06T16:27:00","slug":"hamblin-wins-davis-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/historyofscience\/2016\/11\/07\/hamblin-wins-davis-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Hamblin wins Davis Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jacob Darwin Hamblin is the recipient of this year\u2019s (2016) Watson Davis and Helen Miles Davis Prize for his 2013 book, \u201cArming Mother Nature: The Birth of Catastrophic Environmentalism.\u201d The prize, given by the History of Science Society, is awarded annually to \u201cthe author of a book useful in undergraduate teaching or which promotes public understanding of the history of science.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamblin is a professor of history at Oregon State University. His work has also appeared in the New York Times, Salon and publications devoted to the history of science, technology and the natural world.<\/p>\n<p>His book traces postwar American scientists; roles in facilitating the study of ecosystems for military purposes.
