{"id":432,"date":"2012-12-10T19:43:01","date_gmt":"2012-12-10T19:43:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/historyofscience\/?p=432"},"modified":"2012-12-10T19:50:30","modified_gmt":"2012-12-10T19:50:30","slug":"new-history-of-science-abds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/historyofscience\/2012\/12\/10\/new-history-of-science-abds\/","title":{"rendered":"New History of Science ABDs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/historyofscience\/files\/2012\/12\/Blake-Canavan-Cray.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-435 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/historyofscience\/files\/2012\/12\/Blake-Canavan-Cray.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"69\" \/><\/a>OSU&#8217;s History of Science Program congratulates three of our graduate student veterans this term, as they advanced to candidacy during Week 10. \u00a0They now have the vaunted status of &#8220;ABD,&#8221; which either means &#8220;all but dissertation&#8221; or &#8220;anything but dissertation,&#8221; depending on how you look at it \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0It was a pleasure to be part of the process getting them to this stage, and now all three have launched into intensive research:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:stclarac@onid.orst.edu\">Rachel Blake<\/a> is working on the history of science and medicine, under Prof. Michael A. Osborne. \u00a0Her dissertation will be on French and German influences on medical education in Alsace in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:canavanb@onid.orst.edu\">Barbara Canavan<\/a> is working on the history of science, disease, and environment, under the supervision of Prof. Anita Guerrini. \u00a0Her dissertation will be on the development of virology as a discipline, and on the networks of scientists who attempted to understand avian influenza.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:soulesl@onid.orst.edu\">Laura Cray<\/a> is working on the history of biology and environment, under the supervision of Prof. Michael A. Osborne.
