{"id":427,"date":"2011-10-14T15:21:53","date_gmt":"2011-10-14T22:21:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/fernhopper\/?p=427"},"modified":"2011-11-07T11:12:16","modified_gmt":"2011-11-07T18:12:16","slug":"what-the-heck-is-su-and-pn-grading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/fernhopper\/2011\/10\/14\/what-the-heck-is-su-and-pn-grading\/","title":{"rendered":"What the heck is S\/U and P\/N grading?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<em>P\/N Grading<br \/>\n<\/em>This grading system is determined by the\u00a0instructor of the course and is used\u00a0for enrichment or skill-building courses such internships or seminars where credit is available.\u00a0\u00a0You CANNOT elect to take a class Pass\/No Credit, instead selected courses will be available only as P\/N.\u00a0 As a bonus,\u00a0P\/N classes do not affect your GPA. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you are concerned about your performance in a class but\u00a0perhaps you&#8217;re\u00a0still doing well enough that WITHDRAWAL is not warranted,\u00a0\u00a0you\u00a0should\u00a0talk with your advisor about S\/U grading which, when used strategically,\u00a0can\u00a0help to preserve your GPA and, if you earn a S (Satisfactory) will\u00a0still give you a passing score for a required class.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>S\/U Grading<br \/>\n<\/em>S\/U stands for Satisfactory\/Unsatisfactory grading. \u00a0The last day to change your grading status in a class from the standard A-F grading to S\/U is <strong>Friday, November 11<\/strong>. \u00a0If you want to do this, visit the Student Services Office in\u00a0Peavy 140\u00a0and ask for a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Change of Grading Basis<\/span> form. \u00a0Fill it out and take it to your advisor for the required signature. \u00a0You CANNOT take a class for your major on the S\/U system. \u00a0Also remember that if a Baccalaureate Core class is counted towards your major, that can\u2019t be taken on an S\/U basis either. \u00a0There is a university limit of 36 credits that can be taken \u00a0S\/U.\u00a0 <strong>Your best bet, talk with your advisor!\u00a0 They&#8217;re here to help!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>This week&#8217;s photo is by Luke Pangle of the South Sister.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0P\/N Grading This grading system is determined by the\u00a0instructor of the course and is used\u00a0for enrichment or skill-building courses such internships or seminars where credit is available.\u00a0\u00a0You CANNOT elect to take a class Pass\/No Credit, instead selected courses will be available only as P\/N.\u00a0 As a bonus,\u00a0P\/N classes do not affect your GPA. \u00a0 If &hellip;
