OMSI Science Communication Fellows are researchers or science professionals including faculty, graduate students, technicians, or other individuals in science, engineering, health, or technology related positions. OMSI Fellows participate in a series of professional development workshops that cover science communication best practices and provide opportunities for participants to practice new skills and techniques. In collaboration with OMSI, each Fellow will develop a unique hands-on educational activity designed to communicate their research to public audiences and will join OMSI in engaging museum visitors with these activities at<\/span>\u00a0<i class=\"\">Meet a Scientist<\/i>\u00a0<span class=\"\">events.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><b class=\"\">Application Deadline &amp; Workshop Schedule<\/b><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">Applications are<\/span><b class=\"\">\u00a0due Monday, November 5<sup class=\"\">th<\/sup>.<\/b>\u00a0<span class=\"\">An online application and further information about the Fellowship program can be found on OMSI\u2019s website at<\/span>\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/omsi.edu\/science-communication-services\">https:\/\/omsi.edu\/science-communication-services<\/a>\u00a0<span class=\"\">and at the new OSU-OMSI Partnership webpages here:<\/span><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.science.oregonstate.edu\/omsi-partnership\">https:\/\/www.science.oregonstate.edu\/omsi-partnership<\/a><span class=\"\">.\u00a0 The workshop dates for this round are:<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">Workshop 1: Thursday, January 24, 1-4pm (at OSU)<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">Workshop 2: Thursday, March 7, 1-4pm (at OSU)<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">Workshop 3: Thursday, April 11, 1-4pm (at OSU)<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">Workshop 4: Saturday, April 27, 1-5pm (held in Portland, OR at OMSI)<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><b class=\"\">Tuition &amp; Scholarship Information<\/b><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">Tuition for the program is $1,850 per participant. A limited number of scholarships are available for this cohort:<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><b class=\"\">College of Science Tuition Scholarship<\/b><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">Eligibility: Professionals (including researchers, faculty, students, etc.) in the College of Science at OSU. This scholarship is possible through the generosity of OSU College of Science donors.<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">Scholarship Amount: $925<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><b class=\"\">Securing Funding\u00a0<\/b><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">We invite all interested applicants to apply<\/span>\u00a0<i class=\"\">even if you have not yet found funding<\/i><span class=\"\">.\u00a0 OSU is committed to helping as many students and faculty as possible participate in this opportunity. OMSI can assist in initiating conversations to find funding through your department, college, or advisor.\u00a0 We are happy to provide information on the Fellowship, including a recent evaluation report on our program documenting the impacts on the STEM professionals participating in the OMSI Fellowship. Please reach out to<\/span>\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"mailto:afisher@omsi.edu\">Amanda Fisher<\/a><span class=\"\">, Senior Science Communication Specialist, to request support.<\/span><br class=\"\" \/><b class=\"\">\u00a0<\/b><br class=\"\" \/><b class=\"\">Broader Impacts<\/b><br class=\"\" \/><span class=\"\">Many of the participants in the Fellowship program secure their tuition through broader impacts or education and outreach components of current research grants.\u00a0 If you&#8217;d like help to secure funding for participation in a future cohort, please reach out to us.\u00a0 We often work with researchers to incorporate the Fellowship into broader impact plans within NSF grant proposals.
