{"id":482,"date":"2012-05-03T15:46:43","date_gmt":"2012-05-03T23:46:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/erlenmeyer\/?p=482"},"modified":"2012-05-03T15:46:43","modified_gmt":"2012-05-03T23:46:43","slug":"procedures-for-clearing-spring-degree-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/erlenmeyer\/2012\/05\/03\/procedures-for-clearing-spring-degree-candidates\/","title":{"rendered":"Procedures for Clearing Spring Degree Candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May\u00a03, 2012<\/p>\n<p>TO: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 OSU Faculty and Staff<\/p>\n<p>FROM:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sabah Randhawa<\/p>\n<p>Provost and Executive Vice President<\/p>\n<p>RE: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Procedures for Clearing Spring Degree Candidates<\/p>\n<p>As you know, graduating seniors enrolled in courses with final examinations are required to take such examinations during the regularly scheduled Final Examination Week of Spring Term.\u00a0 Since personal diplomas will be awarded to graduates at Commencement on Sunday, June 17, 2012 Oregon State University will again adhere to the following procedures for clearing Spring Term degree candidates.<\/p>\n<p>I am writing to ask all faculty and staff to once again cooperate fully with the procedures used so efficiently in the last nineteen\u00a0years.\u00a0 The key features are outlined below.\u00a0 <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Please remember that a preliminary grade of &#8220;I&#8221; will probably prevent the awarding of a diploma at Commencement.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you have specific questions about procedures, please <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">contact Kent Kuo<\/span> in the Office of the Registrar.<\/p>\n<p>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<\/p>\n<p><strong>Procedures for Clearing Spring Degree<\/strong> <strong>Candidates <\/strong><strong>for Commencement 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.<strong> Monday, May 7, 2012<\/strong>&#8211; &#8220;Preliminary&#8221; web grade rosters will be available to instructors.<\/p>\n<p>2.<strong> Monday, May 14, 2012<\/strong>&#8211; Preliminary grades are due at Registrar&#8217;s Office by noon. Grades will reflect anticipated final grade.<\/p>\n<p>3.<strong> Wednesday, May 16, 2012<\/strong>&#8211; The Registrar\u2019s Office staff will provide the Graduate Dean\u2019s Office with preliminary grades for each candidate for Masters and Doctor\u2019s degree and begin the customary final Bachelor\u2019s degree checking procedures to include the following:<\/p>\n<p>a. Notify students who are<strong> clearly ineligible<\/strong> and those who are <strong>in doubt <\/strong>on the basis of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Institutional graduation requirements<\/li>\n<li>College\/school and departmental graduation requirements (according to advice from Head Advisers)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>b. Advise students who may be petitioning for exceptions to institutional, college, or departmental requirements.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 <strong>Finals Week \u2013 Monday, June 11 to Friday June 15, 2012<\/strong>.\u00a0 Faculty will notify the Registrar\u2019s Office, as soon as possible, after each final examination if a degree candidate will receive a final grade of D, F, N, or I\/GRADE.\u00a0 Unless otherwise notified, final decisions on receipt of diploma will be based on the preliminary grades reported on May 14.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>If the final grade significantly differs from the preliminary grade given, please e-email the information to <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"mailto:graduation@oregonstate.edu\"><strong><em>graduation@oregonstate.edu<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em> on or before Wednesday, June 13, 2012.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>5.<strong> Sunday, June 17, 2012 \u2013Commencement<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Baccalaureate degree candidates<strong> in doubt<\/strong> may participate in Commencement, but will receive a diploma case with a letter (not a diploma) pointing out that final grades will be required to confirm their status.<\/li>\n<li>Degree candidates found to be<strong> clearly ineligible <\/strong>for a degree by the preliminary grades may not participate in Commencement, unless they have applied to graduate in either the Summer 2012 or Fall 2012 terms.
