Liotta of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Professor Ram Krishnamurthy of The Scripps Research Institute are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to begin work in 2016. \u00a0Research will be primarily conducted at Georgia Tech within the <strong><u>Center for Chemical Evolution (CCE)<\/u><\/strong>, a Phase II NSF-NASA Center for Chemical Innovations, which has participants at 9 institutions across the US. The CCE research projects are focused on understanding the emergence of functional biopolymers from plausible prebiotic precursors. The ideal candidate would have a PhD in organic chemistry with experience in synthesis, physical-organic chemistry and analytical characterization methods. The research will primarily focus on plausible origins of various proto-biopolymers. \u00a0In addition, significant emphasis will be placed on training and mentoring, outreach and innovation\/tech transfer. The position will focus on the origin of lipids with an emphasis on the role of particle-phase chemistry in atmospheric aerosols. The candidate will have the opportunity to perform laboratory chamber experiments<\/p>\n<p>(http:\/\/www.coe.gatech.edu\/news\/air-we-breathe).<\/p>\n<p>This position is within the Center for Chemical Evolution, a Phase II NSF-NASA Center for Chemical Innovation, which has participants at 9 institutions across the US. The CCE research projects at Georgia Tech are focused on understanding the emergence of functional biopolymers from plausible prebiotic precursors.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants should hold a Ph. D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Organic\/Physical Chemistry, Environmental Sciences\/Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, or a related field. Knowledge and experience in operating advanced aerosol instrumentation (e.g., high resolution time-of-flight aerosol mass spectrometer) and conducting chamber experiments are preferred.
