Wednesday &#8211; Margie Haak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Name:<\/strong> Margie Haak<\/p>\n<p><strong>Area of study:<\/strong> Chemistry Education (although I am a physical chemist by training)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position title:<\/strong> Senior Instructor II<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why chemistry?:<\/strong> It\u2019s all Mr. Smith\u2019s fault! (Mr. Smith was my high school chemistry teacher) UCLA didn\u2019t have a Pre-med major, so I had to pick something to major in. My thought process was something like this \u201cWell, chemistry was fun, I guess I\u2019ll be a chemistry major.\u201d And then I got sucked in by the beauty of chemistry, especially physical chemistry, and the rest, as they say, is history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research focus (in non-science terms) or basic job duties:<\/strong> I teach mostly general chemistry and my interests lie in active learning strategies and ways to increasing student success in general chemistry courses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One thing that I truly love about my job: <\/strong>The students! Both undergraduate and graduate students.
