Undergraduate of the Quarter – Spring 2012<\/figcaption>\n <\/figure>\n

Sam Bartlett has been selected as an undergrad chem major of the quarter for Spring 2012. \u00a0Sam was born in\u00a0Sunnyside, WA but was raised in Lake Oswego, OR until 4th grade when he moved to Corvallis. \u00a0He attended\u00a0Crescent Valley High School. \u00a0Sam picked OSU because of its strong reputation, the in-state tuition costs and wanting\u00a0to stay close to home. \u00a0He initially was a biology major, but the first term of Organic Chemistry from Dr. Daniel Myles\u00a0showed him that his real interests were in Chemistry. \u00a0Sam cites Prof. Carter (for CH 336) and his current advisor, Chris Beaudry (for his instruction in CH 471 and CH 535)\u00a0as his two favorite professors. \u00a0\u00a0 Sam has conducted extensive undergraduate research during his time at OSU. In fact, Sam and\u00a0Professor Beaudry have published a paper on his research in the Journal of Organic Chemistry \u2013 a major\u00a0accomplishment for an undergraduate student. \u00a0Sam is very grateful for this experience \u2013 particularly commenting that\u00a0Professor Beaudry\u2019s insights were valuable and he is very grateful for his help in getting into grad school. \u00a0 Sam has\u00a0really enjoyed the community in the Department \u2013 feeling that it is like a close knit family. \u00a0 Sam will be starting\u00a0graduate school this summer in Organic Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Professor Jeff Johnson.\u00a0\u00a0UNC-Chapel Hill is regarded as one of the top programs in his field and we congratulate Sam on all his\u00a0accomplishments to date. \u00a0It is students like Sam that make OSU Chemistry as strong as it is today!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
