The OSU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi is now accepting nominations for the Emerging Scholar Award. The chapter established the award to honor tenure-track faculty members in any academic unit who are in the early stages of their professional careers in recognition of outstanding research or creative activity in their field of study. Consider partnering with The President’s Commission on the Status of Women (PCOSW)! The PCOSW Speaker Series Subcommittee welcomes funding requests from all members of the OSU community. The 2017-18 Speaker Series theme is “Raising Awareness: Knowledge is Power.” PCSOW supports a range of speaking formats including, but not limited to, lectures, workshops, or breakout sessions. Opportunity for Junior Faculty

    This two-day workshop is for postdoctoral fellows that are interested in a faculty position in the chemical sciences at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI). This event will be hosted by the University of San Diego in San Diego, CA from April 20 to 21, 2018.

I know that some groups have gotten reminders recently regarding the required FERPA form for letters of recommendation. It is probably a good reminder for all of us. Note that these regulations are cover currently registered OSU students.

FERPA releases are MANDATORY for writing letters of recommendation for students. The mandatory FERPA form is attached and must be completed by the student.  These can be kept within a departments central office for general use, in NOLIJ with the students records, and or by an individual.

It is also against FERPA policy to communicate official OSU business with students via personal email addresses, as personal email is not sufficiently secure to protect students’ information.

Now approaching its twelfth summer, the Amgen Scholars Program continues to offer undergraduates the opportunity to collaborate with faculty at top institutions on cutting-edge scientific research at ten renowned U.S. host institutions.

Applications for the 2018 U.S. Amgen Scholars Program are now online.  Note that applicants do not need to currently attend one of the host institutions to participate. In fact, Amgen Scholars have represented over 680 colleges and universities to date.

We hope you will pass this information on to your undergraduates before the application close date of February 1, 2018 (February 15 for the California Institute of Technology). OSU MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences), is currently seeking donations of ‘lightly used’ professional business attire for our 13th annual Career Wardrobe event, which will be held Feb. 8, 2018 in the MU Ballroom open to all OSU students. The annual Career Wardrobe event helps all OSU students prepare for the winter term career fairs and supports student members attending the MANRRS National Conference. Current donation drop off locations are 158 or 147 Strand Agricultural Hall (STAG) and OSU Career Development Center located at B008 Kerr on campus. The Beaver Store in Portland is also a donation center which is located at 538 SW 6th Ave.
