Protein Biomarker and Lipid Reference Laboratories
The Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS), National Center for Environmental Health, CDC, conducts research and provides laboratory support that improves the detection, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of environmental, tobacco-related, nutritional, newborn, selected chronic and selected infectious diseases. Within DLS, the Protein Biomarker and Lipids Reference Laboratories in the Clinical Chemistry Branch supports this through performing research on biomarkers to detect human exposure to environmental chemicals and to diagnose and treat chronic diseases.
We are seeking candidates for a fellowship administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) at the Bachelors level with a degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related science (Minimum GPA: 3.0), and experience in chemical and analytical laboratory work.
This fellowship will provide the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience in human exposure research and laboratory medicine. This includes operating state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and procedures, performing quality assurance tasks, processing and evaluating complex laboratory data.
Under the guidance of a mentor, training opportunities during the fellowship may include:
• Prepare biological samples to quantify biomarkers of human exposure according to established laboratory procedures
• Operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and automated liquid handling instrumentation
• Perform data processing and analysis using complex software and data evaluation procedures
• Develop written documentation that clearly and accurately documents laboratory procedures, instrument operation, experimental results, troubleshooting and remedial actions
• Perform tasks in compliance with policies and regulations such as those outlines in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA)
The following skills are desired:
• Experience conducting laboratory experiments
• Ability to conduct literature searches and to write reports describing laboratory results
• HPLC, GC, and MS instrumentation experience
• Good written and oral communication skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office
This fellowship is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) (visit http://orise.orau.gov/cdc/ for further information and eligibility). Specifically, candidates must have received their degree within five years of the appointment. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed for up to five years upon recommendation of CDC and contingent on the availability of funds. The stipend depends on educational level and experience and follows those described in federal salary tables (GS tables). The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

2018 Air Force Research Lab Repperger Research Internship Program

I am writing to remind you the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) is currently accepting applications for its 2018 AFRL Repperger Research Internship Program until January 21, 2018.
This civilian research opportunity is a 10-week summer program intended for MS/PhD candidates pursuing degrees in STEM. Each year the laboratory will appointment a couple exceptional undergraduate students into the program. There are 36 posted opportunities, once the application January 21, 2018 deadline passes, each application will be reviewed and AFRL will fund 15 participants for the summer period. Career Wardrobe donations sought
OSU MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences), is currently seeking donations of ‘lightly used’ professional business attire for our 13th annual Career Wardrobe event, which will be held Feb. 8 in the MU Ballroom open to all OSU students. The annual Career Wardrobe event helps all OSU students prepare for the winter term career fairs and supports student members attending the MANRRS National Conference. Current donation drop off locations are 158 or 147 Strand Agricultural Hall (STAG) and OSU Career Development Center located at B008 Kerr on campus, or The Beaver Store in Portland at 538 SW 6th Ave.
OSU Libraries offers $2,500 grants for resident scholars using the Special Collections and Archives Research Center
The Resident Scholar program provides research grants of up to $2,500 to support work done in the OSU Libraries Special Collections and Archives Research Center. Historians, librarians, graduate, doctoral or post-doctoral students, and independent scholars are all invited to apply. Money, Fun and New Teaching Skills
he due date for proposals for our upcoming spring Hybrid Faculty Learning Community has been extended to Monday, January 22nd.
The Center for Teaching and Learning will provide $1,250 in professional development fundsto instructors who fully participate in the Spring Hybrid Faculty Learning Community in Spring 2018 and redesign an established Corvallis campus course as a hybrid course that will be offered for the first time as a hybrid in Summer or Fall 2018 or Winter 2019. If a team develops a course, the $1,250 will be equally split among team members. Preference will be given for large-enrollment Bacc Core courses, though all proposals will be considered.
Hybrid courses designed through the Hybrid Professional Learning Community will serve on-site students, and adhere to the regular on-campus (not Ecampus) tuition structure. It is anticipated that each new hybrid section will replace an existing fully classroom-based section and be offered at least once a year.
The learning community will blend 5 face-to-face meetings with online activities. Meetings will be Weds., 2:00-3:30 p.m., on Apr. 11 and 25, May 9 and 23, and June 6. Instructors and tenured/tenure-track faculty in at least their second year of teaching at OSU are eligible to participate.

Graduate Student Travel Award: Opened January 9, 2018

Every quarter, the Graduate School administers the Graduate Student Travel Award; graduate student travel to conferences is essential for the professional development of our students. The travel funds from this program are designed to provide graduate students with financial support to cover part of the cost of attending and presenting their scholarly achievements at prestigious conferences and venues.
Approximately 10 awards will be made per quarter. The maximum award will be $500 for domestic travel and $1,000 for international travel.
