Collegiate Assistant Professor: Integrated Science Curriculum Leader
The College of Science at Virginia Tech and the Academy of Integrated Science, through its Integrated Science Curriculum (https://www.ais.science.vt.edu/programs/isc.html), are placing a strong emphasis on integrated and interdisciplinary teaching. As part of this initiative, Virginia Tech has a non-tenure track faculty position for the Leader of the Integrated Science Curriculum in the Academy of Integrated Science to start in Fall 2018. The appointment will be at the rank of Collegiate Assistant Professor with an initial 3-year appointment and the possibility of multi-year renewal upon successful review.
The Integrated Science Curriculum is a two-year program that prepares students from the College of Science for their respective majors through a curriculum built around student teams working on problem-oriented exercises while mastering interdisciplinary concepts. Biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics are intertwined, in lectures and in labs, to achieve a dynamic understanding of a wide range of fundamental principles within the modern scientific method.
We seek candidates who are passionate about interdisciplinary teaching of undergraduate students in an inclusive and integrated environment. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses and laboratories related to the Integrated Science Curriculum, where successful candidates will:
● Make significant contributions to our interdisciplinary undergraduate instruction; coordinate laboratory and lecture courses, work closely with our undergraduate students, and lead efforts in curriculum enhancements and innovative pedagogy;
● Continue to develop professional capabilities and participate in scholarly activities, including travel to and participation in professional conferences and societies; and participate in department, college, and university service and governance, as well as professional service.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, physics or a closely related field. Successful candidates will be expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate level and work closely with the existing interdisciplinary programs in the Academy of Integrated Science. The fourth annual Portland American Chemical Society Undergraduate Poster Symposium and Career Fair will be held on Sunday, October 22, at the SRTC Building at Portland State University, from 4-7 PM.  We hope to have 40 or more undergraduates presenting posters about their summer research; there will be free pizza and pastries (and other food and drink).

There will be $150 first prizes and possibly $75 second prizes in each of seven divisions (Organic, Inorganic, Analytical, Physical, Biochemistry, Polymers, Materials).  Note that the chances of winning a prize are pretty high!

We anticipate that representatives of many local companies and graduate schools will be present; the schedule is designed to allow plenty of time for the students to leave their posters and interact with the recruiters and other students.

I am writing to seek your help in getting this information to every undergraduate attending a school in the Portland or Oregon ACS sections who did chemistry-related research during the summer of 2017.  No one knows this better than the faculty.  Please forward this to your colleagues, and through them (or directly) to appropriate students; in addition to those who did research on campus last summer, please try to remember those who did research somewhere else.  Company and national lab internships count, as long as the students are able to divulge their results, and researchers from other departments are also welcome, as long as there is some connection to chemistry.  The results need not be high impact—we understand that some projects do not work as expected, but one can still make good posters about them.

Assistant Professor Positions in Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry at New College of Florida
New College of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in
Organic Chemistry and a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Bioorganic Chemistry,
both starting in August 2018. A Ph.D. in chemistry is required for both positions. The successful
candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching and research. Teaching experience
and postdoctoral research experience are strongly preferred. New College is committed to

TENURE–TRACK ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR POSITION
MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Missouri is seeking to fill a tenure track position in medicinal chemistry beginning in Fall 2018. We anticipate that the position will be filled at the level of assistant professor, although appointment at the associate level may be considered. It is expected that the successful candidate will have the potential to build a funded, nationally recognized, research program focusing on the design of new medicinal agents within the framework of translational precision medicine. The position requires the ability to work collaboratively with physicians and others in achieving goals that are aimed at the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases at the molecular level, including, but not limited to, novel drugs, sensors, or radioactive probes. Finally, the candidate will demonstrate the promise of establishing a strong record of teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
