The School of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Purdue University invites applications
for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor faculty member in Exposure
Science/Industrial Hygiene.
The successful candidate is expected to lead an extramurally funded
research program involving environmental or occupational hazards and their effects on human
health; and contribute to teaching in our ABET-accredited undergraduate and graduate level
programs and the newly established Public Health Graduate Program. Although all research areas
in Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences are welcome, the School has particular
interest in the development of cutting-edge methods in exposure science/modeling and its
application to epidemiological and toxicology studies. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Industrial
Hygiene, Occupational Health Science, Exposure Science, or a related field and at least 3-5 years
of relevant independent research experience. Candidates who are Certified Industrial Hygienists
(CIH), or who will be eligible for CIH certification within two years, will be given preference.
CIH status should be directly addressed in the application. The position is competitive with regards
to salary, start-up funds, and laboratory space.
The successful candidate will have extensive collaborative opportunities in the School of Health
Sciences and beyond. Within the School of Health Sciences, ongoing studies on the adverse
outcomes of numerous environmentally relevant exposures offers tremendous opportunities for
contributions from an exposure scientist. Outside the School, there are collaborative opportunities
with Purdue’s world-renowned colleges, including Engineering, Management, Science, Health
and Human Sciences, Pharmacy, and Agriculture. Purdue has also established Discovery Park, a
highly interdisciplinary enterprise dedicated to transformative research that includes state-of-theart
centers for nanotechnology, biosciences, healthcare engineering, energy, and other multidisciplinary
activities; including the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories which focuses on indoor
environments. In addition, opportunities for collaboration also exist with a large number of
manufacturing, information, healthcare, and energy industries in the region.
Please email a curriculum vitae, a statement of current and future research interests, and contact
information for three references to Dr. Jason Cannon, Chair of the Faculty Search Committee at
cannonjr@purdue.edu. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2017 and continue until
the position is filled.
