What you will do!
This position is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of Oregon State Hospital – Salem staff, patients, and visitors by conducting fire and life safety inspections, evaluating safety program effectiveness and compliance with the state, federal and applicable regulatory standards. Formulate policies and design operational system to enhance the hospital health and safety program, and provide training and education to hospital staff to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Communicate and provide recommendations to hospital leadership to improve safety policies and programs through committee involvement.

Duties & Responsibilities
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
- Analyze, interpret and apply laws, rules or agency policies related to occupational health and safety.
- Subject-Matter-Expert on Occupational health and safety standards.
- Coordinate the occupational health and safety program at OSH.
- Develop policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety.
- Train OSH staff on occupation health and safety topics.
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies such as OSHA to identify problem areas and improve conditions.
- Assist management in correcting regulatory deficiencies related to Occupational health and safety.
- Conduct ergonomics assessment of OSH staff and work areas.
- Conduct on-site fire and life safety evaluations of workplaces to identify health and safety hazards, and author FLS reports.
- Manage documents related to fire drill exercises and ensure accountability as required by regulatory standards.
- Author reports and present findings to appropriate committees and hospital leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed within an office environment and inspections of OSH areas and includes issues of a confidential and sensitive nature. Instate travel may be required. Non-Traditional work hours may be required. Must have the ability to operate a personal computer and tools associated with the health and safety field. Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record or an alternative transportation method.Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience performing duties of an industrial safety representative or safety officer; OR
A Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety or occupational safety and health; OR
An Associate’s degree in industrial safety or occupational safety and health and two years of industrial safety or regulatory enforcement program experience; OR
Four years of industrial safety or regulatory enforcement program experience.
Note: At this level, a knowledge of industrial safety codes or regulatory enforcement experience is needed. Acceptable experience which demonstrates the industrial safety code knowledge would include having the major responsibility for devising or administering safe work practices by using the industrial safety codes as a basis. An example of such experience is being a lead worker with responsibility, similar to a supervisor, for safe working practices. If the responsibility for administering industrial safety measures was less than full-time, describe the time spent working on these activities.
- Experience analyzing, interpreting and applying laws, rules or agency policies related to occupational health and safety.
- Experience developing policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety.
- Experience training.
- Experience promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
